I don't use my phone excessively unless I'm at work, and it is the only form of entertainment I have. When I'm home, or out on the town or whatever, basically not at work, I don't even touch it unless expecting a call or making one.
My friend will check it allllll the time. Even while driving. Even in theaters. Pisses me off so much. Sometimes we'll be out somewhere eating and I feel alone because he is glued to his phone. Mine is usually on my desk at home, not even plugged in to charge.
Yep, it's pretty depressing. Fortunately my closer friends and I have a rule where we don't touch our phones at the table when we go out, and that's worked pretty well. None of my professors allow phone use in class except in prearranged circumstances. One of my profs threw a kid out of class last year for checking his with 15 minutes left in class, and that class only has one free absence and that kid had already used his. Enjoy that half a letter grade deduction!
I can't stand people who are on their phones 24/7, get some fucking perspective on life, holy shit.
I dont have a smartphone because I'm usually at home and have a PC and the internet and paying $100 a month for service isn't my cup of tea. I have family members that tell me they were too busy to call me back or didn't have time when I know for a fact their phone is in their face 24/7. Smartphones are as bad as MMOs at sucking people into a little bubble and distancing them from reality.
It's why I just have a crappy nokia.
I don't wanna end up like that.
Yes, extremely common in my experience. I do it too. Like all the time.
Not relevant as long as one is able to achieve what is needed in any given situation or disturbing my well being. People are going to chose what engages them most in any particular social situation. And what's your opinion about it?
Omg, my mom does that exact same thing but on an iPad. Then when you want to change the channel she'll be like "no, I'm watching this". Or sometimes she'll be on her iPhone messing around with the ring tones with the TV on.
Luckily I don't have friends who do this. When we hang out we actually hang out with each other as in playing video games or going to a restaurant. Mostly playing video games though. It's one of my biggest pet peeves when you're with someone and all they're doing is looking at their phone. Sometimes I feel like just taking their phone and throwing it against a wall. Then there are those people who have to do it while they're walking out in public or even driving. Pay the fuck attention to where you're walking or driving.

For me, it depends.
During Uni lectures etc? Of course not. But in the bus, while waiting for it, while waiting for a class to start etc? Sure. The internet is usually just more interesting than the stuff that is going on around me.
Also, I listen to music pretty much ALL the time.
