Interstate Crosscheck Threatens Millions of Voters

Election officials in 27 states, most of them Republicans, have launched a program that threatens a massive purge of voters from the rolls. Millions, especially black, Hispanic and Asian-American voters, are at risk. Already, tens of thousands have been removed in at least one battleground state, and the numbers are expected to climb, according to a six-month-long, nationwide investigation by Al Jazeera America.

If you share a first and last name of another voter in one of these 27 states, your right to vote could be at risk.

Well that is insane. If they cannot bother to abide by the entire criteria, the program should be shut down.

Can't wait to see the people that rationalize banning early voting to try and rationalize this. But I'm sure the races that generally vote Democrat being overrepresented in a list of mostly Republican states is pure coincidence.

    Out-fucking-standing.
I don't care if it's Republicans doing this (though it appears to be the case), this whole situation is bullshit. Voter fraud has been used to run roughshod over minorities, and in reality is a non-issue as the numbers of fraud have been so insignificant they fall within the standard margin of error.

ITT: right leaning posters supporting voter suppression because it benefits their side.

Of course the fact that quite a few courts are striking these various initiatives down as unconstitutional is irrelevant right?

For the party that supposedly is pro-constitution they sure don't care much about the right to vote.

It is, but this program has very obviously been skewed to favor one party over another.

Please continue to ignore the issue at hand.

Pretty much the entirety of the article is talking about how they say they'll match based on all these criteria, but then they pretty much ignore everything but first and last name so that people with no relation to those on the list are mismatched and removed from voter rolls.

Hell, they ignore birthdays and social security mismatches. How is this not a problem? This is not checking. This is not integrity. This is firing a shotgun and hoping you hit the target.

No but unlike Fox news Al Jazeera has at least some standards.

Like before even more people spew the "They should be checking. good" read the ENTIRE thing. They arent even applying it correctly. They are often ignoring SSNs, bdays, and even middle names. SO a Tom S Cruze, born in 58, from Iowa will get matched with a Tom D Cruze from Washington who was born in 54.

Evangelical Republicans dying-off will mean that Democrats eventually get their small social victories, such as gay marriage. However on the much bigger economic side, Evangelicals dying-off will not change anything. The global economic machine is not inherently based on demographics or religion in the 21st century.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that economic and social issues are somehow separate. With the changing demographics in the US the GOP will be unable to win a national election by 2020 unless they make a significant change to their platform.

Technically all economic and social issues are related in that they are all based on humans and everything influences each other. However many leftist social issues are truly unimportant in the greater economic sense. Yes gay marriage or abortion have an economic impact, but it is extremely small relative to the big picture.

I agree that the right-wing will not be able to significantly win elections unless they change their social stances, such as gay marriage or abortion, and get away from the Evangelicals. Any politics that is primarily related to religion should go away. So yes, Evangelical Republicans are dying, but the right-wing is not going away.

Oh, it's extremely simple. Just scream "WE MUST PREVENT VOTER FRAUD!!!" at the top of your voice in response to any question.

Warning : Above post may contain snark and/or sarcasm. Try reparsing with the /s argument before replying.

When exactly are we supposed to get notification of purgification? I've taken a class with someone of the same first and last name of me, and live in Ohio.

Is there a good way to check if I've been purged, manually? I usually mail in my vote and got my forms like normal, does that mean I'm A-ok?
