looking to buy a gaming laptop for christmas possibly. DX11 minimum

well, my laptops are starting to show their age, as games like Alien Isolation and Shadow of Mordor require DX11 or the like

and i learned that the hard ways

so, what I am looking for is a laptop that at least has direct x 11 graphics. here are a few more specifics i want

    500 GB-1/2 TB of space

    good for the long term
preferably not HP or alienware, since those are my two current computers

budget is about 800-1200 bucks in that range

    hope im doing this right

    I paid $1200 for - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834231630

edit- actually I have the best buy version which has the 4710. its a 2.5 vs the 2.4 on the 4700

I enjoy it, I added a 250gb ssd. I run WoW on ultra at 60fps in everything and I can do new 30 man heroic on high and only dip to the high 40's on a lust pull.

Those laptops you mentioned are a little over his budget.

Here's a laptop with the same GPU, 4710MQ that he mentioned for the best buy version of the ROG, AND a 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Those ROGs only have HDDs. Cheaper than the ones linked as well.

    http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np7358s...wconfigure=yes

Comes out to around 1150 regular price while being possible to save 3% if you take certain steps to do so. It's listed on that site. Solid laptop.

Yea thats the one he's talking about. Only difference between that one and the one I linked is the ASUS has a bigger screen (which may or may not be a good thing or bad thing for you) and the Sager has an SSD.

Sager just came out with a new one that is a nice jump ahead. 15" 1920x1080 (4K screen available for $275 extra), i7 4710, 970M graphics, dual M.2 SSD capability, dual hard drive bays.

The basic version without an SSD (which you can always add later) and windows 8 comes to $1349, but this is the latest tech available. The 970 blows the 860 away. It provides between 1.5-2x the in-game performance.

Hands Down I would have opted for the 970 if it was available when I got this. But the 860 serves me just fine. I play primarily WoW and a handful of other older titles, nothing cutting edge. I love the 17" screen, I think a 15" is too small. Granted if you need the smaller size for portability then the 15" would make sense. The 10key is nice though. The hdmi ports and 4k capable out for media is pretty tits. Plus the cooling on the ROG laptops is monster, I have yet to get it to spool up more than 40% fan speed.

That sager is pretty beast. If I had to choose based on performance, that sagar would be no question. I like the form on the ROG a bit better and the 17" sets it apart for me because this is my desktop replacement.

Yea I saw it, just wasn't in his price range when you consider the 3% + OS ($1349) so I didn't bother, but glad you brought it up as I should have probably made it clear to him the performance increase he would receive by spending the extra. The 970M is definitely a beast compared to previous gen mobile GPUs I can't deny that.
