i think it's a deplorable act, one of the most disgusting things that humans do anywhere in the world. these animals clearly have an intelligence beyond that of others, i'd say easily to a level of certain primates. dolphins are probably the second or third smartest animal there is, they have individual names, they chatter behind each others backs, and they can even understand human language and even understand the significance of the ordering of each task in the sentence.

they are an arising people, in my mind. one day i certainly believe evolution will give us a neat, smooth skinned, aquatic intelligent neighbor. i believe it should be our duty to protect them until they reach that point. but of course, humanity is not very virtuous, and nobody will care even after it's too late to start caring. it's our flaw as a people, one i'd certainly forcibly fix if i had to power to. sadly it'd take the power of a god to change people, but if i had it i certainly would.

I am 100% against whaling because it is exceptionally inhumane. It takes a long time for them to die and it is quite painful. We even extend to pests like coyotes, rats and such the mercy of a quick kill. So there's absolutely no excuses for it.

We kill for certain reasons, the how and why is always important. Like for example, using a glue trap and letting a rodent starve to death on it is in no way comparable to killing it mercifully with a blow to the head.
Yes it is. Either way it's dead.
We kill because we can, just as nature intended. Harden up princess or this life will be very rough on you.

You are implying that torturing something to death is the same as giving something a mercy killing.

It has nothing to do with "hardening up", these are clear distinctions in reality that even a child would understand.

You have the audacity to claim that people live in a dreamworld, yet you exist in a society where such distinctions are very real and apparent and you don't even recognise them.

Whaling is wrong, fishing for tuna and shark is also wrong.

I'd say that eating meat is wrong, but I do love my bacon and steak. I try to minimize my meatconsumption, not necesarrily for humane reasons, but because its supposed to be good for the environment.

I'm still searching for the insect burgers that are commercialised recently, haven't found them yet, but they are supposed to be very tasty and very carbon neutral.

I can't believe this is an actual discussion. How can anyone think whaling is fine? It's nothing like killing cows and chickens you idiots, whales are wild animals in limited numbers. You know what happens when humanity exploit wildlife? Species are extinct.

I think killing any animal for it's meat is wrong, but I'm not going to preach about it since I've bought a damn chicken curry for lunch today

For the small part it plays to my defence, I think there is an order here. Killing slugs, for example, is clearly not a big a crime as killing a human - we all accept this spectrum exists, and then we can hid within the cracks of it's definition when it suits us.

    Whaling is fine
    - The whale species that are being hunted are not near extinction levels, most populations are even rising.
    - Whaling is strictly regulated (in most countries that still practice whaling).
    - Whaling is on the decline in most of these countries, demand is not high enough.
    - Whales die quickly (thanks to the modernized harpoon), no it's not painless - such is life.

But I guess people would rather go back a couple hundred years, where you hoped to harpoon a whale, tire it out, and get it close to the boat and slowly stab, hack and slice it to death.

Also, Sweden hunts whales ? this is news to me.

I don't care enough to have a solid enough opinion about whaling. Though I apparently feel strongly enough to tell everyone I don't feel strongly about it.
