There is a video in that, but you have to click it to start if you are squeamish don't be worried. How can anyone even..do that. Supposed adultery is now enough of a bad thing to help people stone your daughter to death?

As the young woman lies in a pit, huge rocks are thrown onto her. Her father then picks up one of largest rocks and uses it to kill his helpless daughter.

not only does he condone his daughter being killed...he is involved in it. Over adultery with no court, just an accusation.

I think we can safely reduce that to just "extremism". This has little or nothing to do with the religion, and nothing to do with the religion as any reasonable person would interpret it. To willingly kill your daughter for something that she has been accused of doing wrong is not reasonable by any standard, nor supported by any system of ethics or faith that I have ever read.

I hate ISIL, there is no question about that.... but using them as an excuse to attack religion in general is about as logical as using EA's DRM practices to attack video gaming as a whole, or using the RIAA's copyright enforcement policies as an excuse to attack music in general.

In any other case, had he just killed her in some other way, I'd agree that this is just someone being ridiculous. But when it's actually written in the holy book of the religion, word for word? That's the religion's fault for instilling such a teaching.

Maybe that's why he stoned her but you can make a man do about just anything for any reason with the right type of coercion.

I'm not going to get into the religious debate for many reasons, not the least of which is that it's against MMO's rules (which is part of the reason I posted the way I did). Suffice to say that unless you have a person who is taking every single word of the text literally, choosing to enforce that one part while ignoring others is the fault of the person, not the faith.

(That's leaving aside questions of whether said texts should be interpreted literally or not, as well as questions of whether such rules were meant to be inviolate commands of the faith, or guidance that was relevant only at the time that it was written when it better reflected the standards, morals, and laws as they existed at that time. Again, not actually engaging said questions, just pointing out that there are numerous questions and issues that exist.)
