    Upgrade for WOD

    Hi all,

My first post here looking for some advice in hardware and game performance.

I actually have the rig below and im looking to upgrade CPU and Mobo first and Memory + GPU after.

    CPU - AMD Athlon X3 435
    Mobo - Gigabyte - GA-880G-UD3H
    Memory - 2 X 2 GB Kingston DDR3 1333MHz
    GPU - Shapire radeon HD6850
    PSU - Enermax 600W

I mainly play WOW (mythic raiding for WOD) and BF4 and have a budget around 150 to 170€.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That budget rules out i5's. So you are looking mostly at an i3 4160 + H97 mobo, those would be along the 180-200euro range. You didn't mention were you are located and any shops you are buying from so can't get into specifics.

    Hi Kostattoo,

Thanks for your help.i was looking for some build around i3 becouse the low budget at this moment.
A friend told me that a pentiun G3258 could be a good option for WOW and BF4 instead of an i3.
I just want some balanced setup to run the game smooth without high resolutions.
After some talk with a local store they told me that motherboards with H97 or z97 will fit the news CPU from Intel in the future, then if i want to upgrade in the future to a 4 core will be fine.Is thats correct?

    Im from Portugal

    Thx Kostattoo

Buy second hand from ebay. Will be cheaper than new and your get a better machine at the end of it.

Yes Z97 will support next gen. But a G3258+Z97+cpu cooler is out of your budget, mostly cause of the cpu cooler. You need to get a good overclock on the pentium to be better than the i3 and that is for gaming only. Any multitasking and the pentium will fall behind i3.

Checked a store online at portugal has G3258@70euros, an i3 4130@113, i3 4160@125 and Z97 starting at 90-95euro or so. With the CM evo that is over 200euro either way.

    Hi there again,

First really really thanks for the help.

Since i cant post links in the forum can you take a peek at this shops, since i cant post links, and tell me what mobo to pick?

    Clickfiel.pt / alientech.pt / pcdiga.com

With this upgrade will i have a significant upgrade on FPS and playability in both games?WOW and BF4 evem with 6850 at 1680x 1050 res?

Thinking to get next time 8gb 1600 Mhz memory and a 750ti OC GPU

    thanks one more time.

750 ti compared to the 6850 has a small jump in performace but not too much. I dunno at 1050 but at 1080p is around 40-50% better at BF4 and less in wow. 50% might sound alot but its an old card so... i would aim for a R9 270x, gtx760, R9 280 so that it can keep being decent in the next few years as well.

    G3258 (64) + GIGABYTE Z97P-D3 (82) + CM hyper evo (30) = 176Euro

    i3 4160 (110)+ MSI H97M-E35 (73) = 183Euro.

Small difference between the 2. In the first case with the pentium you need to make sure your case supports the height of the cooler. Need to tell us what case you got anyway. Personally i would get the Z97 mobo (cause its really cheap this one) with the i3 for 192euro.

If you're talking about a future upgrade, now is not the time to consider your choices. Depending on how long you expect to wait on that, There are plenty of cards around the corner waiting to be released to have more performance for similar pricing.

My case its a Thermaltake V3 (I think its a good one for the price i buy it 4 years ago) and have a good airflow.

I will get the Z97 mobo and the i3 4160.

in about 1 or 2 months i will get an upgrade for memory and GPU and then i will see the prices.Hope to stick with this rig for 2 or 3 year.In worst case i will change the CPU later for the Broadwell generation.

Just hoping to grab a good GPU to get a smooth game time without rage becouse low fps and freeze times in mythic raid or BF4 multiplayer.

The evo cooler does fit inside the Thermaltake V3. When you will upgrade your gpu consider a new power supply as well.
