ill probably be infracted for this post
I don't think it needed confirming; if they did a good job with Feral when it was both a tanking and DPSing spec, they'll clearly do a good job with Prot being both a tanking and a DPS spec.
What I think you want to say is that it was optimal in some field, as we all already know it's viable in every field.
37 + (3*7) + (3*7)W/L/T/Death count: Wolf: 0/1/0/1 | Mafia: 1/6/0/7 | TPR: 0/4/1/5SK: 0/1/0/1 | VT: 2/5/2/7 | Cult: 1/0/0/1
Worth noting, they where running with gear scaled to 655, and I would assume with chars set up with gear available on the Beta. This means that they would have the 4set and all the Bonus Armor gear that they would like. This won't be available when we first start progressing in Highmaul and Blackrock Foundry.
I don't see what difference it makes? Those same things would apply to arms and fury.
And Glad certainly can have full Bonus Armor before raiding starts since you can just farm heroic dungeons/crafting/etc to have full BiS pre-raid gear. Now if there's a scaling issue where Glad is worse at low gear levels than fury/arms, there'd be a point, but its not like Glad is going to gear slower than Arms/Fury.
If anything itd be faster.
Doubt that is an issue. That would be a scaling issue, not a viability issue.
I can see the point that a lot of people were saying "oh its not meant or going to be viable". Well, it is meant and going to be viable. Its like I theorize, this is their way to give classes a "4th spec" without adding a 4th whole spec. A theory that is supported by a new seal on holy paladins that increases the melee damage they do, and a new stance on mistweaver monks that increases their damage they do as well. I truly believe this is their way to test out giving classes more choice by building upon the specs that are already there. So far, its a success.

OP, the question has never been "is glad capable of performing as a ST DPS spec" but "is glad viable for progression raiding."
they are two different questions.
So is gladiator spec atm best or what?

Confirmation bias for the win.
Confirmation for gladiator being viable (in its current state) both wasn't needed and has no point. There was no question for most that gladiator is a viable (mostly single-target) spec, but there is still a high possibility the other two specs will get tuned up or gladiator will be tuned down. Also that is not taking into account other implications of playing gladiator, like needing multiple gearsets for fights where you need to bring a raid cooldown (hello mythic progress) or better cleave.
Also they skipped both the fights in Highmaul where arms would've had the advantage over gladiator.
I think it's more a question whether Fury or Arms are viable than Gladiator at this point.
I mean, I know Blizz likes to knock on sims, but 6.0 launch definitely proved them wrong. At level 90, it was simmed that Fire Mages, Fury WArriors, and Demo locks would be very much OP above the rest, and that MM, WW, and others were underperforming. Lo and behold, sims were correct and the top 3 received their nerfs, and bottom received their buffs. Glad Warrs have been simming at 100 amongst the top overall with Fury and Arms among the lowest melees so it would be stupid to not take Glad to the raid.
Is arms low dps? I though its pretty good, also passive cleave is clear advantage.
Shame 99.99% of all shields clip through the shoulders with the new Tauren Male model.
I don't think anyone has questioned it's viability outside of burst aoe.
A decent amount of the community (not specifically warriors) didnt realize gladiator was viable. I find it 10x more fun than the sad state of the other two specs and we were playing on the post 30% ww nerf which is why bloodletters was also gladiator.
The unfortunate part of glad being protection is that there will always be a portion of the community who won't see it as viable and that "they should just tank lol" because they're stuck in the past.
EDIT: Then again, those same people think all priests should be healers and all warriors should be tanks.

It's not its own spec, it's more like feral used to work with one spec being able to serve two roles. I do however think that they might at some point make it its own spec, because they eventually did split feral up, so why wouldn't they do it here?
