Russia created North Korea as a buffer country like Poland. They wanted to surround Russia with countries favorable to them.

China is the same, they didn't want a free united Korea so they protected North Korea in the Korean war.

And I think Russia and China have distanced themselves from North Korea over the last few years.

As a Swede I'd like to pontificate that we'd never consider ourselves allies of North Korea. "Ally" implies some level of equality, which I am sure I speak for most of us when I say that we'd never be worthy of. Who are we to compare ourselves to the greatness and glory of the bloodline of Eternal President Kim Il Sung? Our relationship is more akin to that of a servant, as is of course fit our station.

It is every man, woman and child's duty to enact the will of the Dear Leader and by any means necessary extend His rule and His will so that his vision may lead even Europe to the glorious future to which North Korea is destined. (and with any luck, facilitate the EU's transformation from Union into Sovereign State modeled in North Korea's image)
