Don't miss this historical event guys..

a small module named Philae launched from Rosetta spaceship will land on a comet named 67p ( not that creative i know )

this is much more important than our daily concerns imo. you can even watch it live here : http://new.livestream.com/esa/cometlanding

also please share your thoughts if you are as hyped as i am !

edit: requested by MerinPally, here is the expected schedule:

Rosetta delivery manoeuvre - shortly after 06:00
    Latest Go/No-go decision - before 07:35
Philae separates from Rosetta - 08:35
Confirmation signal at Earth of separation - 09:03
    Rosetta's post-delivery manoeuvre - 09:15
    Radio connection established - 10:30
First data from descending Philae after 12:00
Landing of Philae on 67P - after 15:30
Confirmation signal at Earth - around 16:00

I'm struggling a bit to find a reason I would care about this.

Would you have cared about the moon landing? About landing on Mars?

The reason you should care is because we can and probably will learn a lot from this. If you still don't care, then, that's fine... plenty of other people care.

If you know anything of the science then it's actually quite important.

I quite like the music. I might just leave this on in the background for the next 3 hours until the next update, just listening. Might wait for the Yes/No decisions at 0000 and 0130 and see if anything happens. Get up again before the last one, go for a run either happy or disappointed. Then just take the day to wait and find out at 1600. It won't be the most exciting but it's interesting.

Edit: Music getting shitter. Oh dear.

I do not really follow these kind of things, I did however watch the stream when the Curiosity rover landed on Mars. Sometimes it's just nice to witness these events.
They have numerous "YES/NO" checks as to whether they go through with the landing. If any say NO then the mission gets called off until either the next opportunity or they cancel the whole thing - I imagine it's next opportunity, they would have planned for that. I don't know for certain, would be a massive shame if it's just no.

They've had the first check and that came back YES, the next one is due in at 0000 and then the one after at 0130, with another at 0730. All times GMT. We'll then get confirmation as to the probes position at around 1600, according to the BBC website and twitter feeds.

Edit: Could OP maybe put this in his post? Might save some questions.

Key timings for landing effort (GMT)

We've intentionally crashed one before. It's the first soft-landing.

The comet known as 67P is also called 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, so I think Putin may claim it for Russia.

Would like to buy that comet, sounds like its going cheap.

Looks like it will be a challenge to land the thing properly, hopefully it will go well. Pretty big step in exploration/research.
