Nope have never cared but I guess it could depend on the situation. Usually it's females that get offended, I recall back in the day kids would ask teachers their age and they would get butt hurt and/or say it's rude while males would usually tell you and then bring up that they have kids or grandkids. Didn't know how old most female teachers where until I saw their kids.

It is rude to ask someone how old they are, but not how young they are.

Now that I'm over a certain age, it is extremely important for me to learn someones age before I ask them out
    You're a towel.

Yes, it definitely is. The other day at work, a co-worker from another section, whom I had never met before, was in a conversation with the HR Manager near my work station, when this co-worker suddenly mentioned her own age out of the blue, which no one had asked her for. I was already anticipating what was coming next, as I can sometimes sense from the vibes which stupid people give off, an inappropriate question that's about to come. Sure enough, this co-worker then turned to me and asked ,"How old are YOU?", to which I replied, "Why? What does MY age have to do with any of this?", to which she replied, "I'm just asking, because I'm proud of my age( as if to imply that I am not ). I said to her, "No, this is not a 'PRIDE' issue, it's simply a 'IT'S NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS' issue!" She replied, "But I told you MY age", to which I replied, "But no one asked you your age . . . and do you know why no one asked you(?), because it's inappropriate & rude, especially in a workplace setting."

It depends in the situation... If you just talked about politics and then get asked how old you are it is indeed very rude.

Yes, it is rude to ask anyone you do not know VERY well a personal question.

Eh. Adolescents and young adults (aka younger than 21) are constantly asking how old people are.

I occasionally still get ID'd in the UK and because I find it amusing I ask them how old they think I am before I give my ID, given I'm in my 30s it's pretty funny to me that I need to prove I'm 18. Recently while entering a bar with a 22 year old girl and 31 year old buddy I alone got asked to prove my ID, I asked the security guy how old he thought I was and he said "I dunno, about 27", it's like why you need my ID then?

As for the question, whether or not it's rude depends on the context of the situation.

Like everything else in life, it depends on the person and the situation.

If its the first thing they ask you, yes. If it comes up later, no.

    Not really rude.

I think the older you get, the more people find it to be rude, but thats probably because they don't want to admit they are over 30

lol luckily I usually go for older women so I don't have to ask but if you're into like 20 somethings then I can see how that would be a problem.

I don't understand why this would be seen as rude. Everyone ages. Its not like loudly asking someone :did you just shit your pants?"

idk, I was a couple years ahead of one of my friends in school and she works retail now and I went in to buy something and she cards me lol. She's 30 I'm 33 and she knows damn well I'm older than her but apparently it's "the law", maybe he had to do the same.

No. I look a lot younger than I am, so I've had random people at work ask me how old I am sometimes. Also I get funny looks from cashiers when I buy booze.

    It doesn't bother me though.

(Also never heard of the whole woman age thing, seems pretty funny it's especially more rude to ask a woman that than a man )
I'm in the US and and last year I went to a casino with my grandfather who is 89, my parents who are in their 60's and when I walked in with them security asked to see my ID, I'm 35. I about died laughing at the man thinking I was under 18! I also took it as a compliment but I totally do not see how anyone could think I was that young.
