    Are you working on Thanksgiving?

In the last few years, if you worked in retail, Thanksgiving was no longer a holiday for you. My wife and I have made a decision not to shop on Thanksgiving. What are other people's thoughts on the subject?

I do not work on Thanksgiving, but I work the rest of the week. I guess I don't mind too much. It gives me an excuse to leave Thanksgiving early and get away from my annoying relatives.

I'm opening late on T-day, hoping for mostly just a bar crowd.

I'm booked solid on black friday... grrr.

Let's all ride the Gish gallop.

My work is closed on Thanksgiving, so no, I'm not. Hoping to get the surrounding days off, too.

I think its sickening that Black Friday has spilled over to Thanksgiving. Lots of people are forced to work and deal with hordes of unruly customers when they could be spending time at home with their families. I think people go too crazy when it comes to Black Friday shopping; in my eyes, its simply not worth the trouble.

I volunteer to work every holiday, every year, so my coworkers with kids can have them off to spend time together.

Where I work, you get holiday pay for that pay period, basically an extra 8 hours (or whatever your average daily hours are) tacked onto your paycheck, regardless of whether or not you work the holiday. You only become ineligible for holiday pay if you're scheduled to work the day before or after and call out on one of those days.

Oh then you're really quite nice. I was gonna say you were nice too or PM you and tell you lol. I wonder what a pharmacy tech does on Thanksgiving.

I don't know yet, my seasonal job opens at 5pm on thanksgiving. If I don't work then, I'll probably be stuck coming in around 3am on friday.

Yup, I'll be working holidays like usual. I'd rather my coworkers with kids and families get the time off. Sucks that this job doesn't offer holiday pay, though.

I'm out of work so no. I'm thinking of moving since I've pissed off all the employers around here.

I do service work and I am self employed, so hopefully I will.

If I do not have any calls to run that day I may just go to the shop and load trailer for a scrap metal or landfill run.

I wish we had thanksgiving here in England, any excuse to eat turkey. I might just make up my own holiday, "Pie day" or something.

Nope, In fact I get the whole week off... mostly/hopefully.

Yes I do, we don't celebrate it in germany, or at least most don't^^

But I want to visit the US at least once to see the Black Friday Madness xD

Fishing chair and popcorn included of course.

I'll probably be leaving work earlyish Wednesday, so I'll probably check my E-mail in the morning to confirm I didn't miss anything. Doesn't really matter though, I'm off Thursday and Friday and no one's going to expect to hear back from me.

Actually, Pi Day is a thing. March 14th, 3.14. We always made pies for that day in calculus.

Not working on Thanksgiving, or at least not much. But I will be working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'm not a retail/foodservice/etc. employee either. I'm a salaried office worker. Officially, my company is giving off Thursday and Friday in addition to the usual weeked. Unofficially, I'll be working through the weekend on a bid with a guy who's flying in from Serbia to work with me. Hooray for clients having stupid bidding schedules.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
