Do you want to break the nose of the person knocking on the door?

Yes/no, choose one and the answer is obvious.

Outwards in my opinion, although both are perfectly fine.

What about kicking in doors or fire safety?

Outward for public buildings were you can have a mass panic -inward for private houses.

Can't inwards opening doors for private houses be kicked in easily, or in the case of fire and someone collapses behind the door be hard to open?

Easier to kick in obviously, kicking in a door that opens out will break your legs.

    Reasons against outward opening.
    My reasons against.

    1. Wind catching the door and using the reveals of the wall as fulcrum to wrench the hinge screws out of the casing. = I would never have an often used door outward opening for this reason alone.

    2. The lock bar/bolt is exposed allowing jemmying to be more accurately targeted, unless a Euro / storm proof double rebate format is used.

    3. A door should be hung to afford privacy to the room as it is opened.

    4. Impossible to open an outward opening door into huge snowdrift (-;

    5. Defensively, an inward opening door is easier to defend against an intruder.

Doors that open in, however, are frighteningly easy to kick in.

Deadlocks, if that fails then keep a baseball bat by the door.

it depends. having a door open outwards if you live in a country like Austria can make u need the window exit with a shovel.

Outward. There have been cases of fires where people rushed to the exits, and couldn't get out because they opened inward.

Always open in-ward where I've lived.

There is a reason why most doors on public places swing outwards. In fact, many states mandate it by law.

Other unlocked doors opened inwards, rendering them useless against the crush of people trying to escape. Fire officials later testified that, had the doors swung outwards, at least 300 lives could have been spared.

    both, or up IMO.

But seriously, there is some laws about it, something about fire security, so when you end up running from your apartment and keep you door open it won't block other doors or something.

Oh well, i remember when i've done my first blueprint project of a multiple apartment house, the teacher just crossed off all doors and said "what the fuck is this shit". I was so embarrassed.

They should go up in sections into track, counterbalanced by a spring
