Something like 1 out of 20 men died during our Civil War. A preacher wrote it if memory serves, in an attempt at preventing it from happening again.
You might want to do a bit of research. This is wildly off-base. It was written by a socialist to instill the idea of nationalism into children. It was changed much later in words and in the 50s they bogged it down with religion as well. It was also used as a marketing tool to sell flags at various times. So in a sense, it is very American in that it's designed for indoctrination and capitalism.

As for the OP: No. Just no. It's a horrible anthem regardless. Musically it's too difficult for most people to sing well, adding even more twisted and forced verses would be a disaster. I find it odd you're supposedly a fan of the Constitution when you obviously don't like that others can exercise their rights. Many times in this thread you've said things that go against the very thing you supposedly hold dear.

(I say unholy because it's hard as hell to sing - it barely even works as a song.) It became popular in the latter half of the 19th Century, and had some formal recognition after WWI, but wasn't officially the 'National Anthem' until well after the start of the Great Depression. The main alternatives - "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" and "Hail, Columbia" - are 'better' in that sense, although the former suffers from a certain lack of originality, being set to a version of "God Save the Queen".
The American National Anthem is one of the most beautiful pieces of choral music I have ever sung.

I'd rather reaffirm the love for my nation with more meaningful gestures than singing the entire version of a song.

Insisting that not singing the whole thing is unpatriotic is on the level of many fascistic regimes. When you start qualifying people's patriotism based on whether or not they perform meaningless gestures, you're already too far gone.

I don't sing it because I don't like singing (though I did already admit I also don't like the song, based on hearing it so often and not liking its melody.)

None of my reasons for not liking or not singing it have anything to do with my views on this country. Orlong is more and more fascist with each post he posts.

Yeah, it's not. Americans cannot do music at all.

Just to let you in on a little insight into Orlong, he thinks the Tea Party, which is the furthest right party, is too LEFT for him.

flags and anthems aren't magical. actually, I'd go so far as to say they are outright stupid.

Also musically it blows, as does my own country's.

The problem with the Star Spangled Banner is that.. it's just boring. It has to be spruced up to overwhelmingly extravagant amounts to even get some attention, and thrown in people's faces again and again. The melody and words are so dull that it just sounds like some sort of strange hymnal rather than a song.
