    Human victims of poaching

Edit: So people are ignoring the subject at hand and instead focusing their aggression on the fact that I incorrectly used the term "poaching" when referring to humans being murdered. My intention was that career poachers have turned their attention towards the human market, and instead of killing animals are killing albino africans.

Some poachers have moved from animal targets to human targets, and murder albino humans for their proposed "mystical" body parts (Thanks Booshman)

Two witch doctors in Tanzania have been arrested after a woman with albinism was hacked to death, police say.

One of her legs and several fingers were removed in the attack on Tuesday.

Albinos have suffered widespread persecution in Tanzania, where witch doctors say magic potions made with albino body parts can bring good luck.

Such killings have declined in recent years, but this latest attack has prompted a human rights group to call for all witch doctors to be banned.

At a press conference on Wednesday, the group, Under The Same Sun said the current regulation of witch doctors was clearly not working.

The BBC's Leonard Mubali in Dar es Salaam says that currently all witch doctors have to apply for a certificate from the ministry of health and welfare to practise.

The attack occurred in the village of Gasuma, in Simiyu province - a remote rural area in the north-west of the country where there have been killings of albinos before, our reporter says.

The woman's left leg, two fingers from her left hand and a nail from one of her thumbs were removed.

According to Under the Same Sun, which campaigns against the discrimination of people living with albinism, the last killing of an albino in Tanzania was in February 2013.

In recent years, the government has been also been trying to address the problem, and an albino MP was appointed several years ago.

This is hardly news, it has been happening for decades. The unfortunate part? It doesn't receive much media attention. In fact, while millions of dollars have been poured into conservation of poached African animals like the black rhinoceros and elephant in the last 3 years, 70 albino humans have been killed in the last three years by poachers, only 10 convictions have been made.

If you're someone who considers poaching on the bottom of your list of issues on the planet, reevaluate your concerns. The same people fueling this are the same exact ones fueling the extinction of hundreds of animals across the planet. It is time more countries take the step the Tanzanian government took, and declare war on poachers
They probably wouldn't poach if they had other options. People do horrible things when desperate.

Um...since people who have albinism are humans this is "murder", not "poaching". YOU just conflated people who have albimism with animals. This is the same borderline retarded crap that PETA does, in order to make people care about their issues.

    Good job.

Poachers are killing humans for the harvesting of their body parts, fueled by the same demand that drives poaching animals. Call it whatever you want, it needs to be brought to the attention of more people and prevented. You probably had no idea this was even happening, yet the only issue you have with it is the use of the word "poaching". You're no saint, get out of here.

    Um, no.

I've known about this for years. Now baseless accusations on your part aside, this still doesn't distract from the fact that you used the same stupid tactic far too many dumb people in the lunatic segment of the animal rights advocacy movement do, in order to make people care about their issues.

Good job on both undermining your cause and exposing your own bigotry in one fell swoop.

    Pro-animal rights side.
On MMO-C exposing the horrors of humans being murdered for albinism.

You need to stop flaming and derailing the thread. What cause am I undermining?

    Also, love the "bigotry" part.

Didn't they already show that pouching was leading to the extinction of a certain type of elephant in Africa, and at the same the money was going to support groups like ISIS. Congress tried to stop it in what seems should easily by a bipartisan support, but the NRA said no since it could somehow lead to gun control.

Exposing the horrors of people being murdered is fine. But in order to get people to care, you YOURSELF conflated them with animals, by calling it "poaching". Which by definition refers to animals. It's not derailing when I'm taking up issue with your own poorly crafted OP.

Goodness. Fine, I submit. Using the terminology "poaching" when describing humans being killed by poachers was poor wording. By no means am I some kind of PETA fanatic bigot because I compared the people, of which I'm bringing awareness to their plight, to the same global issue of poaching facing animals.

Genocide fueled by voodooism? Is that more apropos?

By the way, I even stated in the OP how fucked up it was that black rhinos and elephants are greater causes for concern than albino Africans, but good jab with the whole animal-rights lunatic thing.

humans are animals. we're an ape, we just happen to be smarter than the other apes.

pretty sick practice. but then again, i can't be surprised.

Please don't undermine our intelligence by assuming we can't understand that this is murder unless the OP explicitly explains that it is.

When the barbaric treatment of some animals is sometimes done to humans as well, that fact makes the violent act all the more horrific, stripping people of their humanity. Saying that a dog in the United States has more rights than a woman in some Middle Eastern countries isn't trying to downplay how those women are treated. Quite the opposite.

I've always wondered how these things get started. Some guy just happened to be carrying a leg of albino around and won big at the craps table?

Though it makes me wonder how many albinos do they have over there that this is an issue?

I'm not even sure I'd call that poaching, it's insane witchdoctors. Though both have that underlying factor of believing in ridiculous snake oil remedies (like rhino horns.) I think their agitation is misplaced by targeting witchdoctors in general rather than that underlying issue (unless it is the witchdoctors selling all the snake oil remedies in that region).

Except these people aren't being killed by "poachers". So "you're still doing it", while trying to act as though you're not.

"Genocide fueled by voodooism" isn't "more apropos" as if it's an alternative to your previous comparison. It's you being on the right path of being correct for the first time, in your own thread. When it comes to terminology.

At this point, through not so clever wording, you're trying hard not to abandon your own personal belief that "albinos = animals". By not fully acknowledging how your thinking is warped.

Its disgusting to twist this into a poaching analogy.

Strawmanning your way to victory is a piss-poor tactic. And neither of your examples are called poaching. Which was the OP's incorrect terminology.
