Just got back, a bit lost regarding pets

I got back into the game recently and decided to play my hunter which I haven't played since early Cata. I was just wondering if someone could give me a quick and brief rundown of a few pets that are "must haves" for PvP and PvE? I checked the sticky for a guide, but it seems it's not updated for WoD yet.

Any tips or pointers would be much appreciated!

For PvE get the pets with useful buffs and bring the one your group is missing. Petopia has a good guide for that.

For PvP the usual suspects are still helpful... MS debuff, roots, etc. Also, Spirit Beast has a very useful heal, if you're BM.
Appreciate your time with friends and family while they're here. Don't wait until they're gone to tell them what they mean to you.

On my pve mm hunter i use a nether ray for ancient hysteria (bloodlust) when needed and i also have a wolf for crit buff, bat for multistrike, tiger for mastery and a moth for rebirth which i switch to if someone dies and needs a cr

U can check at wowhead.com/pets for all various pet classes and their abilities

For PvP I use a Wolf for 5% crit and a Scorpion for a Mortal Strike (25% healing reduction) debuff.
"Druid must be boss, Hunter is just Drain-monkey.

    Hunter scatter this rogue.
    Hunter drain that priest.
Hunter where is frost trap. Bad Hunter! No banana!
Hunter where is flare? No flare, you get replaced by retarded warrior!"

A few pets I would suggest having in any stable:

    MM/SV
    Moth/Crane - combat res
    Nether Ray - bloodlust
Dragonhawk - Multistrike (your best stat)
Scorpid/Riverbeast - Healing debuff (mortal strike) for arena

    BM
Core Hound - bloodlust and 5% multistrike (very nice default pet for BM)
Spirit Beast - for the healing ability, useful when soloing
Quilen - combat res and 5% crit
Devilsaur - Healing debuff (mortal strike) and 5% crit. Best pet for BM arena.

    Close, but can be improved.
    PVE:
    MM/SV:
    Moth/Crane - combat res
    Nether Ray - bloodlust
Gorilla - 5% stats (Kinda best)
Dragonhawk - Multistrike (Best for SV & MM (& tons of other specs really)
Boar - Versatility (2nd best for SV)

    BM:
    Quilen - Battle Rez, Crit
Core Hound - bloodlust and 5% MStrike
Worm: Stats+Versatility, your (kinda) best stats
Rhino - MStrike+Versatility, your best stats as long as you have +5% stats buff from somewhere
    Shale Spider: Stats+Crit

So when you guys use a pet (in a non raid or dungeon setting) which do you use? I've been using my Raptor with my MM Hunter for the crit, is that not the best choice?
    Battletag: Chris#23952 (EU)
    Warlock

Brilliant, just what I've been looking for.
    Thanks a lot, everyone!
