The PS4 uses a completely different CPU architecture, so Sony has said that emulation will be very difficult to do. So instead they're going to focus on their Playstation Now streaming rental service instead.

Maybe if Playstation Now flops they'll reconsider. Otherwise doing software emulation via brute force is still do-able. Some games might get some funny behavior though, or have speed issues.

Nah, it's been rumored for awhile ps1 emulation will come to the PS4. Who knows when though. It's not about cpu architecture the Vita/PSTV uses a damn ARM chip which is nothing like a ps1 and it can emulate ps1 games.

Even the PS3 non backwards compatible ones can emulate ps1. They can also emulate ps2 games, but sony forces the publisher to make sure the ps2 game works on the emulation right and thus are download only, can't play discs.

The only problem with the PS4 architecture is that it will NEVER emulate a PS3, nor is it capable of doing so. That has jack all to do with one day being able to emulate ps2/ps1 games and seeing as sony has 100s of ps1/ps2 classics on the PSN store you can bet your ass they will one day make the emulation work on PS4.

It is still well within the realms of possibility. I get that there would be challenges, just a little disappointed they haven't tackled them.

Yea Tech614, no chance of a PS3 emulation, it is nowhere near powerful enough to perform a software emulation and the infrastructure is so different from the PS3, a hardware emulation will never happen.

Just wish they would hurry up with the streaming service.
