What's the point of dual spec anymore?

I feel as though Blizz might as well just let us respec on the fly like we do with talents and glyph and just remove the 2 spec limitation. Is there a point to it anymore?

We'd like to hang onto at least some sense of immersion.
It was never Hardcore Vs Casual. It was Socialites Vs. Solo players

You're swinging a huge 2-handed hammer two times a second. Either that or you're shitting out some leftover Frostbolts every once in a while.

Immersion and dual spec in a sentence is a paradoxon. It would be only an immersion if you would need some epic farming quest ("re-training") for changing your spec and then it would be permanent (you need to do it again to re-spec again).

Don't think I care either way at this point, I personally only use one spec (Protection Warrior) but I can see why a hybrid could need to switch between all of their specs without having to go all the way to a trainer and have to rearrange all of the action bars.

I think a proper compromise would be to allow you to respec on the fly, allow WoW to store an instance of all of your specs's action bars, but charge you the respec gold amount for switching out one of your two specs for your third one. That way it will still cost gold (which Blizzard seems to want), but you still have the convenience at being able to respec on the fly without having to even look at your action bars to know that they are the way you want them to be.

Oh please, I can understand the argument of immersion when it comes to something RP related, but not something like this...

Blizz has clearly stated that their reason for keeping dual spec is that they want to maintain spec identity. They make it as painless as possible if you want to play more than 2 specs of your class. However, they still want to keep spec identity.

I would guess that until enough people start stating how spec identity does not mean anything, and class identity is more important....you won't see the change.

On a plus note, changing specs is pretty easy. Get an addon to help you out, and it is even easier. So it really just comes down to "convenience vs spec identity". Blizz is thinking the latter is more important. It's up the to players to prove differently.

I agree, just make it cost a Tome and let us change on the fly.

Your sense of immersion is ruined by switching a two handed weapon for a shield and one handed weapon?

There isn't any reason to stick with 2 specs at this point, other than the old school ego players yelling "OMG Blizzard dumbing down the game catering to filthy casuals"

    BWAHAHAHA

And this is how supposed QOL changes turn into a discussion as to whether said game element should exist in the first place.

I'm not sure you completely understand what immersion is.

The question here is why even have three specs anymore? When you really look at it 2 specs is really is all that is needed for each class. For example warriors just need a tank and dps spec, you can configure talents around to achieve the play-style of the different weapon types to suit your taste. Pet classes don't need a separate spec for pet based combat just put talents in that would allow the other two specs to take advantage of the pets if so desired. Druids can be separated in two classes really, some lunar/solar based class and a typical shape shift class. I know it would never happen but it makes much more sense and would be easier to balance and bring in new classes without having to think about three separate roles.

Glad Stance Warriors are a (not so happy) accident though.
And the patch notes indicate as much. Glad gets hit by the nerf hammer.
I was always puzzled by the fact how a tank spec can become suddenly not just on par with a dps spec (arms) but even exceed it (fury).
That does not make any sense to me, for that matter.

It took you that long to declare it dead? For me, it was allowing players to create pink haired, pigtailed Gnome Death Knights. And then adding one as an NPC. Named ORLY. Immersion slain.

Because I don't want to have to reconfigure my bar every time my guild asks me to heal rather than dps....

Yeah, I'm a believer in the ability to just change to any spec, like its available for you. Would definitely be nice, and it might even encourage more healers and tanks in stuff like the LFD/R tool. They might give it a shot because "it's there". Just hit a button and respec to what you want.
