    UK considers banning private communication.

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/t...w/45869113.cms

Online messaging services like WhatsApp and Snapchat may face a ban in Britain as prime minister David Cameron has vowed to introduce a slew of legislations that would deny terrorists a "safe space" to communicate online in the aftermath of a series of terror attacks in France.

The proposed legislation would provide a new legal framework that will authorize British intelligence agencies to crack the communications of terror suspects if there was specific intelligence of an imminent attack.

Cameron asked, "Are we going to allow a means of communications where it simply is not possible to do that?" He responded by saying: "no, we must not," reported The Guardian."

Several messaging services like, Snapchat, Apple's iMessage, WhatsApp and others, encrypt messages sent through their applications. If the legislation comes into effect, all such services will be banned that do not allow any access to the communications.
Gotta say, this is pretty 1984ish. To not allow any form of communication without a way for governments to read it is a massive invasion of privacy, and can really only be defended under the old pretext of if you don't have anything to hide you have nothing to fear. Hopefully some lawmakers realize this guy is a little off the deep end and sink this whole thing.

It is pretty frightening, I think. Thankfully, these guys don't understand technology or open source at all making the whole thing pretty moot. The gesture itself is more scary, i think.

If they attack facebook (the masses opiate) the Conservatives can kiss their ass goodbye, it will guarantee a UKIP majority.

It's worth noting that this isn't policy.

It's David Cameron talking out of his arse and not understanding the sheer volume of encryption in the world and what is actually encrypted.

It's a knee jerk reaction to recent events. I'd be highly surprised if anything remotely resembling this gets anywhere near a bill.

Really? I mean.. the prime minister of the UK wants laws that undue the privacy of apps whose sole goal is privacy. I don't know UK politics that well, but if the prime minister of a country wants something done that kinda seems like they're considering it.

That would be political suicide (but based on the average voter, probably not)

The whole quote with it's context, or the abridged internet version?
"In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance." Paradox of tolerance

This just confirms once again that this imbecile has no fucking clue what he is talking about.

Isn't it past time that Cameron starts doing his actual job (jester for the amusement of the Queen) instead of playing prime minister?

the thread title is sort of misleading and sensationalist. it's a proposal to ban communications in britian that won't allow access to suspected terrorists communications.
r.i.p. alleria. 1997-2017. blizzard ruined alleria forever. blizz assassinated alleria's character and appearance.
i will never forgive you for this blizzard.

Which include things like Wickr, Snapchat, and WhatsApp. Some of those Apps use opensource encryption available to anyone that is, essentially, uncrackable. If the Prime Minister got what he wanted, you and I could no longer send a message that no one else could read.
