Hatred gets a AO "Adults Only" rating in the USA. "2nd game ever to get the AO rating

    http://www.gamespot.com/articles/hat.../1100-6424713/

Hatred, the controversial massacre simulator, has received an Adults Only rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board, the organization that rates games in North America.

"Well, I'm not quite convinced why Hatred got AO rating while it lacks any sexual content, but it's still some kind of achievement to have the second game in history getting AO rating for violence and harsh language only," a Destructive Creations developer said on the game's official forum. "Even if this violence isn't really that bad and this harsh language is not overused. The guy from ESRB (by the way - very nice, polite and cooperative one) told me it's all about 'the context' which people they're testing gameplay video on will see."
So what is ur guys thoughs on this.

Sorry but this is a way for them to censor the game and nothing more. They are using context as a excuse to give the game a AO rating and therefor it will not be sold in stores or ported to consoles without massive change. Also to add good chance it will also keep it from being sold on Steam unless Valve decides to sell there first AO game.

This is just a way for them to try to censor the game and I think thats bullshit.

Edit: I ment 2nd game in the US to get a AO rating ever mybad. I wrote this halfway asleep.

I think it's fine, really. The game honestly deserves an AO rating and it'll still be available through certain retail stores that deals with more.. alternative games. You'll probably also find it on various online stores that doesn't give a damn about ratings.

The only thing the AO rating does is prevent people from having wide access to the game. You'll have to make an effort in looking for it and people won't just stumble across it and buy it from a BestBuy or on Steam.

I don't see the problem at all.

    Edit:

The logic of the AO rating is that the people who know of the game and must own it will find a way to buy it without it being offered widely to an audience who probably should not have access to it anyways. The people who're following this game will get it as they should but it won't be shoved into anyones' face either to avoid controversies and all that bullshit which would otherwise pull the game entirely from ALL stores.

Be happy that it got an AO rating instead of simply being banned. It's the best of both worlds, really.

How is it ok for this game to get a AO rating but GTA V gets a M rating?

GTA V contains way more...EVERYTHING and yet has a M rating.

In GTA V you kill anyone u want. You even have a part where u tortue a guy. How is the context of that any different really.

This game got a AO due to the language used. Context can't be a end all be all excuse to censor something and thats what they are doing.

Freedom of Speech keeps it from being banned and there is far worse games out there with a M rating like Manhunt/Postal and GTA V.

No, see, censoring it would be banning it from being sold. That's not what they did. They're not making the game unavailable for purchase, ergo it's not censored. The graphic killing scenes, screams, pleas for mercy from dying, innocent civilians, the crying of children that you slaughter etc. etc. is 100% uncensored in the game and thus recieves an AO rating.

It's not just the 'language used' in the game that awarded it the AO rating and believing that would be naive.

GTA: V has many things that are borderline and Rockstar are famed for loving to walk that thin line where the content is JUST on the edge of the M rating. That's the diffrence. The context which the GTA: V content is presented varies JUST enough from that of Hatred to result in diffrent ratings. There's no censoring going on on either side of the board.

The game is uncensored and released with all the gory goodness you could possible want. In turn, it's just not available on large commercial markets. You'll still get your 100% uncensored game, so what's the complaint about, really..?

Nope nether got a AO rating. GTA:SA almost did due to the Hot coffie mod but it didn't happen. Leisure Suit Larry got a M rating even the Ps2/Xbox/PC version did.

Manhunt 2 PC version is the only game to be released with an AO rating by the ESRB.

i think the main difference is that in GTA you can murder people, where as in hatred, the point of the game is to murder people. im happy they gave the game an adults only rating, its an f'd up piece of shit in my opinion.

Well I do feel a little entertained that, well let's just say in my opinion, rather fucking dumb and over attempt to be edgy, is getting this form of backlash on it.

It will of course sell, because it got the publicity that it wanted. But it also made a lot of opponents that will demonize it, and that is just how it is now a days

There is many ways to censor something without outright removing it. This is one of those ways.

GTA: V has many things that are borderline and Rockstar are famed for loving to walk that thin line where the content is JUST on the edge of the M rating. That's the diffrence. The only thing GTAV dose not have is kid killing and rape. It has everything else and is far worse then Hatred. Hell Rockstars other game "Manhunt" was a video game snuf flim.

Why should any parents take any notice? Its clearly a adult game ment to be owned by adults just like COD or GTA thats why those have a M rating title. If little jimmy is playing Hatred because Mommy bought it and yet didn't look at the content it isn't the content makers fault its the kids moms fault.

That's my point entirely. Kid Killing is something that'll take Hatred over the edge from a VERY borderline M title to an AO.

True but Rape simulator is just that a rape simulator. This is a ultrakilling game. We have many of those and steam sells them cheap. So why should this one get treated different.

....Kid killing isn't in hatred I didn't mean to make it sound like it is. It is a pointless killing game from what is shown but there is no kid killing. What I was saying is GTAV has everything but rape and kid killing and GTAV is worse then Hatred.

It got a AO rating due to language..... I can give u a list of games/books/movies that has said worse and recieved a way lower rating.
