No point in getting pvp gear?

So I just started PvPing after skipping MoP and not caring about pvp in Cataclysm.

BGs are still fun in my opinion, but honor gear (675) is almost useless as I'm already in 670 gear and progressing in mythic.
I only see one reason to get PvP gear and that is for the set bonus, and it's questionable if it's even worth it. There's nothing special about PvP gear anymore.
Yes there's conquest gear but that's only a bit higher ilvl than mythic, any PvE geared player will be able to do almost as fine.

Why did Blizzard butcher PvP this much?

Because most pvpers don't want to raid mythic to be competitive. I do agree mythic shouldn't be on par, though, with Conquest considering conquest isn't on par with mythic, I do think PVE ilvls need a 675 cap in PVP. But either way, what are you going to do... Luckily afaik tier bonuses will be disabled in PVP.

PVE gear is scaled down and capped in Battlegrounds, PVP gear is scaled up.

PVE set bonuses and maybe trinkets are also disabled.

Mythic doesn't drop below 690 does it? I thought mythic/conquest (for pvp) was even, and mythic was a means of min/maxing stat priorities?

Once BRF is released, and currently now with mythic warforged, a lot of PvE gear is best in slot, simply because state allocation is better.

Because blizzard in their infinite wisdom, stopped scaling down PvE gear in PvP like they did in MoP (it scales to 690: conquest level). Following the company policy of one step forward two steps back.

No but all PvE gear is scaled down to 690 if its higher afaik, which only includes mythic warforged, until BRF at least.

Mythic BRF gear is scaled down to 690 which is the same as Conquest, so mythic gear is best in slot in a lot of cases simply due to statistic allocation. I honestly think it sucks... to be able to min-max in PvP I have to do the highest version of PvE? That's some backwards thinking.

It's especially bad with weapons, since at least with armors we have some options. But weapons? Str at least is all crit/mastery.

On the up side of down, we're required to use pvp trinkets!

It's good if you're a Warrior though, since you won't have to put up with bullshit secondary stats like Haste/Versatility for that slot. It is surprising that they didn't make the different weapons have different secondaries, since Reforging and the Weapon Racials were removed.

not true at all, a lot of specs can get away without the damage reduction in favor of the massive damage increase.

If you are in an active raiding guild then yes, it wouldnt be worth it to spend honor on 675 if you are already in 670. However I can be in full 675 pvp gear in 1-2 days and by the time you get full 670 I'll already be in 690.

Pve'ers are behind the curve until BRF hits

Doing rated bg 3 win a week to cap is pretty much the equivalent of doing LFR and receiving Mythic gear,

the tooltip on PvP gear scaling up is wrong. It scales up to 710, not 690, and the others presumably scale the same. So PvP gear is still useful

How is this system "butchering it"?

The fact that people raiding can switch into PvP without having to grind out honor gear is a plus. Honor gear is just meant to be a stepping stone to get ready for rated content. Similarly, PvP'ers can get their 660 conquest gear and use it as a stepping stone into Raid content.

Conquest gear is still king for PvP
Raid gear is still king for PvE

It's a complex system but they basically nailed it IMO.

Or getting mythic gear as a reward for a follower mission.

Wait until BRF opens and humans with double mythic trinkets destroy arenas.

You say they nailed it however...

660 in Conquest ILvL outside of PvP, where as 690 Mythic gear is 690 outside of PvE... that alone makes it in my opinion anything but "nailed"
There should be a large and blatant difference between the 2 when out of their conceived area of the game.

AT best mythic gear should be equal to honor gear in PvP and at best Conquest gear should be equal to raidfinder gear in PvE, that is how you allow introduction to each play style....

due to that moron holinka's way of destroying crit/multistrike in pvp, you will definitely want every piece of 690 gear to have only haste, mastery or versatility.

Legendary ring and mythic foundry gear can have those combinations, PvP gear does not(Aside from 2 or so pieces)

Don't forget that PvP requires zero effort and does not have a failure mode while to get Mythic pieces you need to make at least some effort. Yeah, yeah, 2 pieces per month from followers. Still requires you to clear Heroic ~ 3 times.
