    No more "Page 3"...

Not sure if its a hoax, or a trial, or whatever, but it would appear that after pressure from various groups of pissed off people, The Sun, a UK tabloid, has stopped publishing topless pictures of models on page 3 of its newspaper, and instead is directing people to its website. Started 44 years ago.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/worl...icle-1.2084438 was the only news site I could find at this point.

Is it horribly sexist and damaging to women? Or just a bit of harmless fun?

    Thoughts?

I don't buy the paper all that often but i can remember page 3 having bewbs since i was a tot.

I know a friend used to buy it for the scores but no jugs its the end I say!

it could be considered tasteless but i think its just become more of a tradition.

I don't think tradition is a good stance for what is right or wrong but I also think people have the right to do what they want. If they want to pose topless then they should be able to.

The sun is typically a piece of shit lad mag.

Full of tits, abject racism, and naturally sexism.

    That said.

I'm not one to tell women how they should and shouldn't act in regards to objectification, some find it empowering to do so, others objectifying.

It's an issue even within feminism itself, that being empowerment of adult workers V objectification and if it should "continue" and if these women are actually making the choices themselves.

Personally though they were the first tits I ever saw as a 9 year old boy, but I won't miss it, not one cent.

Being offended is a full time occupation for some people. my issue is , not the removal of page 3 but the fact someone was offended by it enough to say i can't look at it. And i don't even read the sun lol.

Anyway they stated if it affects sales the decision will be reversed.

Also the women are still there they just wear Bra's now because nipples drive men to treat women like shit. Yet Kim Kardashian breaking the internet is empowering...go figure

    Don't think it really matters.

Heard some stuff on the news this morning about it on the way to work. Some people like going on about how it was sexist and this and that so it's good that it's gone. I don't think it's really sexist or not sexist. It's just a thing. Removing it just a business descision I guess.

I can't say I'll miss it. Nothing against women choosing to pose topless, but the Sun as a whole is shit. Not the most empowering avenue for women to pose topless.

I don't really know why it's in the newspaper but I'm not offended by it. It's not a problem in magazines like FHM and Zoo but The Sun has a much wider audience, it's up to the editors to make the decision on whether or not it is beneficial. Personally, I find it extremely unlikely that many of the people complaining about Page 3 in The Sun even read it anyway.

It's a tabloid, not a newspaper. I guess the boobs were all this paper had going for it.

While I'm not a boobs guy and thus, am not sad to see them go, it IS sad that more and more people cave in to the Offended

Shocked it survived so long I admit.

I could maybe agree if it was just a protest, because they thought it was somehow inappropriate, not sexist. I have always found it odd with those page X girls, and it is a somewhat weird "tradition".

The Sun has never been the kind of rag to cave in to offended people. I imagine this is 100% a business descision.

I personally dont care either way.

It does not impact me at all as I'd never buy such a piece of gutter trash of a newspaper.

Seams a bit outdated personally, but whatever, I dont find it offensive, more anachronistically funny that it existed for so long despite society changing away from this kind of thing so dramatically.

To be fair the opinions of Tracy, 22 from Manchester and her colleges were actually the best opinion pieces in the sun. Seriously google them or something, those 9 sentences were more informative and interesting that the rest of the publication. Also TITS.

I dunno, not really a paper reader (I get most of my news through phone news apps) so it's not something I'll miss or care about. I personally don't see the harm in "Page 3", but then I'm not a puritanical type who feels the need to tell women what they can and can't do with their bodies. If Lucy wants to make money posing topless for a newspaper then more power to her. I don't see why she should be told she's not allowed to "objectify" herself or willingly allow men to "objectify" her.

Maybe it's a business decision and The Sun thinks it can get more readership by cleaning up and caving in to the holier-than-thou crowd... then again I don't imagine the kinds of people who were whinging about it will ever read The Sun anyway.
