[Hero League] - 10 Hero Requirement

Started up at level 29 before Hero League came out and clicked over to try it out. Saw that I had to be level 30.

"Not too shabby...I'm only a few games away from 30," I thought to myself.

After reaching 30 I was ready to queue up and have a fun match with people of potentially higher skill than the cesspool of players quick match brings along...

Then to my dismay I see you are REQUIRED to own 10 heroes!?! At first I thought the gate to Hero League was to either have 10 heroes OR achieve level 30.

Is this how Blizz wants to rake in the micro-transaction money? Should I use gold to buy all of the cheap heroes? Bend over and just pay for a hero bundle? Anyone else have tips/thoughts?

Isn't that the same for LoL? What are you going to do if you have 5 heroes and they get banned?

What Kerdoz said. How else would you play? What if you have 6 heroes and you are the 9th to draft and all of your heroes were picked?

Edit: Since the wipe in October, I've now gotten to 18 heroes without spending much money. About all I have bought is Thrall, Jaina, Abathur, and Anub'arak with real money (maybe a 5th I can't remember). And that's without LiLi or ETC. Just do dailies and play more than just doing dailies and you'll make a good amount of gold per day. It takes some time, but honestly ranked mode is better the more heroes people have.

Also, the starter bundle is 3 solid heroes for something like 5 bucks?
All of the 2k gold heroes are good, the worst of them probably being Lili and ETC, but Lili is at least better than your team not having a support. Tassadar and Tychus are tier one heroes at 4k gold. Uther, Rehgar, Zagara, Stitches, and Arthas are all damn good heroes at 7k gold. At ~450 gold a day, and without buying any of these heroes with $$ (on sale or not) it wouldn't actually take that long. It takes about a month to make your first ~33k gold, and that's only playing a handful of games a night. Someone who really worked for it would buy a stimpack or buy a 10k hero or two and go with it.

its good to have the 10 hero requirement, like people have said before also because youre not gonna have 10 heroes at level 30 if you dont use real cash you will have to practice more in normals for the gold against other level 30s which will lead to playing better in ranked, everybody wins

10 Heroes is NOT hard to unlock with gold. I've been playing for, I dunno, two months maybe? I had around 18 Heroes unlocked by the time Ranked came in, with only two of those bought with cash. I had also dropped 20k gold on two Master skins.

Because of how the system works you need to have 10 heroes. Every hero can only be picked once, so if you only have 9 heroes and all 9 of them get picked if you happen to be last pick, you can't play any hero. Kinda makes sense.

I've bought 3 heroes with real cash, the rest I've earned with gold. I even dropped 10k on the Anub'arak master skin. And I didn't play between the release of Warlords and this week. Just put in a bit of time and you'll get there.

Buy the Nexus bundle, it's a freaking circus of value! Or if that's too pricey, those cheapo weekly gold boosters are amazing. If you insist on spending no money, just play heaps of games. Hero League appears to be aimed at long-term HoTS players rather than new ones.

There is a reason for the 10 hero requirement. There is only allowed ONE of each hero in the game...period. Not like normal matches where each team can both have one of the same hero.

So needing 10 heroes is to keep the variety up.

I assume you're from EU. Nexus bundle was always cheaper, as were all other things in the shop. They raised all prices on the 5th of January I think.

Yea, Totally forgot about that aswell. Them 500g for each level 5 is alot of gold. And I have no idea how you can't be close to get 10 when you are level 30. I checked mine now and I have 10 heroes. One Bundle and then bought the rest. I am level 16.

I'm only level 18 but I already have enough gold to buy 7 heroes if I budget. Everytime you get a new hero play it to level 5 for the extra 500g. This also counts on the heroes in the free rotation even if you don't own them so you can rack up a decent amount there.

As others have said, it has to be 10 - blizzard isn't being greedy. There are 10 spots in a game, it is possible that all of your champions could be chosen. It doesn't seem very likely, but the system has to allow for the fact that it could happen. Otherwise you'd have to be forced to leave if your champs were picked and the leave penalties are quite unpleasant.

On another note that's more indirectly linked to the 10 hero requirement. It's good to play something other than your favourite sometimes. You get to learn a lot about the characters' strengths and weaknesses. That is valuable knowledge to bring to a game. Not just for knowing how to deal with the opposing team in an optimal fashion, but also how to maximize teamplay.

ETC for example can mess up a lot of ultimates with his stun and his push thing. But he can also be used to body-block like crazy. It always feels good to soak a Nova's Triple Tap for some assassin who would otherwise have packed it in right then and there. When playing with an ETC on your team, you can keep in mind that he has some tricks up his sleeves. If you play against him, you know to watch out for those things and not get put in a very bad position or waste ultimates.

I was quite disappointed as well when I saw the requirement.

I wish they would:
make free rotation 7->8->9->10 on levels 1->10->20->30->40
Change hero league requirement to having access to 10x level 5+ heroes
(5 seems a good number, you have unlocked all talents and have actually played with them)

This way you could access the hero league, assuming your account is level 40 and you have leveled all the heroes on the current free rotation to level 5. Sure, you can unlock 10 heroes pretty quickly, but if you want to unlock heroes you actually want to play, that's a different story. I really hate having to pick between accessing hero league and accessing the heroes I want to play.

If that's taking too much money from their pockets, they should at least be selling "hero league bundle" with 10 of the cheapest heroes bundled together, no skins or mounts. Just a quick and dirty way to gain access to the league.

As Shamanic said, its not hard to get the gold get the heroes especially if you budget, and if you complete dailies regularly.

As for the 10 character limit its kinda needed really, as others have said, if all your others are taken atleast you have one character to fall back on, since you cannot use the rotation in the hero league.

I bought the founders pack to get into beta.

3 heroes from founders pack and free Valla + Lili(2k) hammer(7k) and i allready have 5k gold again ..... thats 6 heroes in 2 days play and i am only lvl 13.

Cant see the problem. And if you really enjoy the game... why not support by spending a few bucks on some heroes or buy a bundle
