I always thought it came from the police usage of a "rap sheet," meaning the list of past offenses a person has. A "bad rap" would indicate that the person is not really guilty of the crimes on their rap sheet.

Edit: Yup "Record of Arrest and Prosecution" = RAP sheet.

Fact is, sharks eat people not because they think you're a seal, but because they actually eat people. I'd like to see every single clown that claims that sharks aren't aggressive towards humans to actually try and swim in an area that's infested with sharks. You wouldn't, because your instinct rightfully tells you to avoid those things because they eat people.
Nor you or him are right.

Sharks don't really eat people unless they already killed one before. The reason why there are so many shark "attacks" is because Sharks are rather curious animals and the only way they can experience things is by biting it. Unfortunately their bites cause tremendous damage, often fatal. The thing with Sharks is they like to experience things even if they aren't really hungry.

However some Sharks are indeed known to hunt humans if they already killed and eaten one, I think there are only three species that do this - Great White, Tiger and Bull Sharks. The other Sharks species either eat plankton, are too small to consider attacking humans, or prefer to hunt at bottom of the ocean.

I am quite fascinated by the special sense Hammerheads have, ability to sense electric impulses created by muscle movement is incredible. All Sharks have it, but Hammerheads can feel electricity created by your heart on a rather long distance. Isn't it amazing?

You are not the only one there... Annoys me too.
Someone tried to come up with an explanation...

I still think it's only laziness of proper spelling/abbreviating

    OT:
I thought for a while... And I have to say Rottweiler.
Those are amongst the most cuddly, most harmless/peaceful dogs. Yet they get all that false reputation over the misuse of them.
They are extremely strong, yes. That can make em very intimidating when they go "on guard" and warn you "this far, and not a tad further".
But they are in fact very harmless, when treated normal.

    Nope. Read my post: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...1#post32052761

Edit: OK, read your link and it agrees with me, but I don't know why "bad rap" would be in any way worse than "bum rap."

Yeah I hear you, I love the frilled shark because it looks very prehistoric.

Well people say "bad rap" aloud as a common part of the vernacular around here, so I'm very doubtful that it's just bad spelling.

That particular crocodile is not very large; I'm sure it could climb up there. The other side might have more of a slope.

It doesn't really need more of a slope, they can climb quite well, look at his claws. I know someone that kept a Caiman for a pet for a while, it could climb almost anything, when it was small it would climb up your jeans to sit on your lap.

Not accusations. They justifiably have a bad reputation due to overwhelming evidence that they're the most violent of breeds (along with Rottweilers).

    Not true.

Terriers are the most prey-driven group, which means they need an owner that a) understands that and b) knows how to handle it (ie, proper training, actually exercising and tiring it, and knowing that no matter what you do if they see something they want there's a 99% chance they are going to go for it if they think they can get away with it).

"Pit Bulls" (not a breed, btw, but a bully mix that has ten thousand breeds and not a single good breeding in them) are this decade's go-to "bad dog". It's been GSDs, Dobermans, Rotts, Dalmatians..
