If you destroy a side, and then die it stays destroyed. You don't have a glaringly obvious choice that let's you reset it. We are talking first playthroughs here, in case you missed it.
I have never seen a person one shot this boss blind. The game never said "hey dudes you can use checkpoint or reset what do you want to do?"
You claiming "checkpoints is the casual way" is what makes no sense, not the fact you couldn't figure out what I was trying to say in a much more simpler way then typing all of this jumbo to break it down for you.
