Knowing what I know about PvP in general this expansion so far, I wouldn't play it all. Every patch is just another middle finger to PvP players.
No, Retribution is the second worst melee in pvp, right after WW monk. They can only do wll if people do't focus them first. Once focussed, a Ret dies faster than a guy on the Enterprise wearing a red shirt.
I am happy that Retribution Paladin isnt my only 100. I also geared a Frost DK and Feral Druid at the same time and I'm having a great time on those.
No, i don't want to play a two minute one-trick pony anymore. The class lost all of its flavour and things that made it unique in Wotlk only to be made baseline or talents that can be brought to the table by holy.
Just call it Ret. and I have since rerolled from a paladin.
Retri is not quite back to S14/15 level, but close. In fact, aside from WW monks and enh shamans, I can't think of a single melee that's in worse spot.
The entire paladin class is pretty much fucked in PvP as far as WoD is concerned, and I don't think gear or a new season is going to fix that, as the design itself is all wrong.
I haven't reached 100 yet but thus far what I do is kite and LoS heal...Is this really the design or am I doing it wrong?
The spec as a whole is a joke in terms of mechanics anyways. They deal almost as much ranged damage as an actual caster and everything is on instant abilities. So Blizzard is in the dilemma that they cannot make it hit too hard because then you have every ranged class complain about them (deservedly so).
The class has to change back into a true melee with more damage up close, maybe a decent way to get out of roots etc, just like it was a few years ago. And simply get rid of the silly ranged damage attacks that they all have right now.
You might think that they dont have such massive problems with balance right now, after eliminating all those things that made classes unique and reducing talents to a minimum etc, yet they still mess it up big time. Just look at the patchnotes in recent years, damage numbers playing ping pong from patch to patch, especially on paladins. Those guys absolutely have no clue what to do anymore.
So why not move damage to 'melee' like they did for Frost? Looking at recount I see that 'melee' is %2x - %3x as a DK, I assume Retri is different ?
Ret in PvP feels similar to Ret in PvE to me. A lot of fun for 20 seconds then completely useless for the next two minutes. But at least in PVE you dont have to worry about every Dispeller in sight targeting you the instant your wings pop.
I only leveled my Pally to 100 because i loved Holy last xpac, but thanks to Blizzard's idiot tendency to change things that arent broken, Holy is boring now. I dicked around with Ret but shelved the class after about a week. In fact, the account with my Monk, Rogue, Pally, Warrior, Warlock, and Mage (all L100) has been unsubbed for a while now.
So the main issue people have is DPS CD being dispelled and namely wings? Because I think the immunity CD's can not expect for a glyph priest?
wings isnt and hasnt been dispellable since casterclysm.
In PvP our primary problem is survival and the lack of CC.
I was never asking for big damage. Ideally, Paladin should have mediocre damage, but be tanky. It's a tradeoff we should possess, but we're robbed of it since MoP.
In Cata I could survive vs. nearly any melee foe if I used 1-hand + Shield macro and pop Seal of Insight, kiting and jumping around the way enemy won't hit me in the back. Skillful play could save you.
Now, vs. mongo damage others do (particularly Warriors, Surv. Hunters, Frost DKs and Ferals) our defenses are useless while bubble, having such a long cd even when talented, still can be dispelled by two classes, and BoP can be dispelled by like 5 or 6.
We have 2nd worst survival in Arena after shadow priests.
What we need is a talent like old Sacred Shield which reduces incoming damage by significant amount or giving us an absorb when our health drops below 35%, and be non-dispellable.
Yes. Ret is still one the specs i enjoy most in the game. It needs a damage buffs (especially Judgment and Exorcism), and also some survivability tweaks though.
Anyone that chooses a class based on how powerful it is at some point should be more than expecting to get some nerfs at some point. So, if you chose Ret at expansion start and now you are surprised it was nerfed, you are just dumb.
Stop calling it "Retri," lol. It's just Ret.
To answer your question, I would not reroll because I still love Paladin and you pretty much have to level as ret, but I have since switched to Holy after reaching 100 and getting a feel for their performance.
And what about the folks who have played ret for 5-10 years? whats dumb was the nerfs that werent justified. the season had just began....people werent in full pvp gear let alone the glad gear. again blizzard rushes to nerf the classes everyone fears will become godmode.
