    Why MIchelle Obama? Why?!

Okay, so a few weeks ago I read a lot of these articles (multiple articles to confirm one subject) and one of things was that Michelle Obama was fighting.... you won't believe this.... artificial macaroni and cheese.

I mean I can understand that she wants kids to eat healthy, but this is just unintelligent.

Thats what they feel is important. Remember this during your daily life

In an interview in the March issue of Cooking Light magazine, Mrs. Obama says Sam Kass, the family's former personal chef, had taken a stand against the boxed variety, which includes processed cheese powder among the ingredients.

She sat there for 30 minutes trying to pulverize a block of cheese into dust," Mrs. Obama says. "She was really focused on it and it just didn't work, so she had to give up. And from then on, we stopped eating macaroni and cheese out of a box because cheese dust is not food, as was the moral of the story."

Contradicts herself in less then one sentence!
If my personal chef didn't want me to eat mac and cheese out of the box I wouldn't eat it either.

I wish I had a personal chef so I didn't have to eat things out of a box when in a hurry sometimes :P

If you get to eat something, eating microwaved food off newspaper is not desired but its what you got to do sometimes.
I'll pass on the personal chef and settle for foodstamps so I could have gotten a sub at Publix today.

But she doesn't want to outlaw it, right? We don't need more nanny statism.

(Stores still use plastic bags here in California)

Really she's taking the same 'stance' most of the First Ladies take. That being the stance of 'champion for health.' While I do agree that the stuff in Macaroni and Cheese out of a box is pretty unhealthy (especially if eaten all the time) changes to our food won't happen till more people demand change.

But seriously... read the ingredients in the cheese sometime.

Where is the contradiction? Just because the Chef is no longer their personal chef doesn't mean they don't agree with them.

Please just stop talking Ms. Obama... Your husband has made us look stupid enough already.

First it was the Chef that told them to not eat mac n cheese out of the box, then all of a sudden it's a fabulous story about her daughter trying to make "cheese dust" out of a block of cheese for over a half an hour while her mom watched.

Why would she let her daughter try to make cheese dust for a half an hour? Couldn't she just tell her it's fake cheese?

Sorry but I gotta side with Michelle on this one, the less artificial shit we are putting in our bodies the better.
Happy new year to all, and to all a good night!

    Full story
Mrs. Obama: Absolutely. And you’ve got to have the information. People don’t—I think most people think that if it’s on TV and it’s being advertised, it must be OK. But if you’re not reading labels and thinking about sugar content and looking at whether there’s real food in the food that you’re eating … I remember, actually, Sam Kass [former executive director of Let’s Move! and White House chef], at one point—we first met him because he was one of the people early on when we were campaigning who came in to help me cook while I started campaigning, because I just didn’t have the time to do it. And he was a core of our processed-food elimination.

And my kids loved the macaroni and cheese in a box. And he said, if it’s not real food then we’re not going to do it. If we want macaroni and cheese, we’ll cook it with real milk and real cheese. He said, there’s nothing wrong with mac and cheese, but it’s got to be real food.

So my oldest daughter [Malia], who was probably 8 at the time, he took a block of cheese and he said, if you can cut this cheese up into the powder that is the cheese of the boxed macaroni and cheese, then we’ll use it. She sat there for 30 minutes trying to pulverize a block of cheese into dust. I mean, she was really focused on it, and it just didn’t work, so she had to give up. And from then on, we stopped eating macaroni and cheese out of a box, because cheese dust is not food, as was the moral of that story.
there still is no contradiction he said if they can turn a block of cheese into dust they will make mac and cheese from the box and they weren't able to.

European citizen here with a question.

Does the FLOTUS hold any power (influence not included)? I mean, does the wife of the current president have her own legislative job inside the government or is it simply a case of "showing support for their husbands and using the influence they have on the nation to develop some agenda (agenda not in the pejorative meaning)?

Here in the old continent the spouses of contry leaders are "completely separate identities" from the leader they are wed to, continue having their previous jobs and in most cases are never involved in any matters of state, unless rare occasions like the president of a country being host to some other monarch/president and their entourage, their spouse will be there like a couple would be when hosting a dinner at home.

No formal power. They have the ear of powerful people though and they're often fairly accomplished individuals in their own right.

Usually they just do pretty all around popular stuff. Literacy campaigns, healthy life style education for kids etc etc.

But, you know, Obama Derangement Syndrome.

She has no political power other than convincing her husband to do stuff. Presidents have a lot less power than foreigner presidents have as the president can only execute the law as written, not write it or interpret it.

However, this doesn't stop the FLOTUS from going on political crusades. They usually find a few issues they care deeply about and go on campaigns raising money for causes or touting legislation they want to pass.

OR maybe Michelle Obama shouldn't be doing things she does not understand, and letting people who actually know about nutrition make these decisions? :P
