That hole in the ground is the sacred ritual place of the Bleeding Hollow clan. All the eyes of the past Chieftains are stored at the bottom. During one of the garrison campaign quests in the zone, you meet up with Ariok and go down there, steal Kilrogg's Eye and use it to spy on Kilrogg and Gul'dan.
