Fire fighter suspended for killing dogs

Update 11:28 a.m. — Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said that his office is taking the initial report regarding this incident, and that Constable Terry Jones will be conducting an investigation. A spokesperson for the SPCA of Texas has confirmed they have an open case regarding the incident and are working with Jones to investigate the incident.

Update 11:10 a.m. — The Royse City Fire Department has released the following statement on Facebook:

"Allegedly, a member of the Union Valley Fire Department posted a boast on Facebook claiming that he killed 2 dogs on his property. He included pictures of the deceased dogs. His Facebook identified himself as a fireman and claimed that he lived in Royse City. We have received a deluge of angry emails and phone calls this morning.

To set the record straight…. the person has been suspended as a Union Valley fireman, and lives outside of our city limits. Any offense did not occur within Royse City jurisdiction."

Original — A Union Valley volunteer firefighter posted a photo Tuesday afternoon to his Facebook page, alleging to have killed two of his neighbor's dogs.

"Somebody didn't put any truth my warning [sic]," a screen shot of the Facebook caption reads. "Keep your damn dogs on your property."

The Union Valley Fire Department said they do not condone the actions and they are removing the firefighter, identified as Tim Conatser in the Facebook post, from the department.

"As previously stated, we do not condone the recent actions of one of our firefighters," Union Valley Volunteer Fire Department said on their Facebook page. "We are following our policy in removing him from our department. This is now a civil/criminal matter that we have no jurisdiction over. Please forward all concerns to local law enforcement and/or the SPCA."

A call to the Union Valley Fire Department was not immediately returned. We will post more information as we receive it.
I find it ridiculous killing a dog that isn't hurting anything just because it's on your yard and then posting images of it.

I find it ridiculous that people can't keep their dogs on their own lawn.

Keep your pets under control, if you can't then you shouldn't have pets. Stuff like this can and will happen if you don't and I won't feel bad over that at least.

I find it ridiculous that you kill someones family member and your first action is to take a picture and put it on social media.

I do agree with the picture taking to be a bit stupid.

Yes, people should control their pets. But you have to be a special brand of asshole to kill it if it's not actively hurting anyone.

It's just a dog, we kill other things which bother us all the time, don't see why they should get a pass just because they're dogs.

Why does it matter that he is a fire fighter?

    It's reprehensible for any profession.

Because the flies and spiders we routinely kill aren't actually people's pets.

No this person is clearly a deranged asshole.

Obviously there was some sort of spat going on here between he and his neighbor and so this hick took it upon himself to execute two animals over something as insignificant as dogs walking on the grass?

Look at this shitbags lawn, does it look like some well maintained ground that he worked hard on? Its half a swap, over this you kill and then taunt on fucking Facebook?

Tim Conatser is a degenerate asshole piece of rubbish and he should be fired and denied any pension.

If I had my way the law would require all animal abusers be executed for their crimes.

View the picture of his lawn here:

I don't think most normal people actively kill things that annoy them.

Imo it depends if it was the first time the dogs came over or if the dude asked multiple time to the owner to not get their dog on his property. More context info would be nice to have, but i doubt either of them (firefighter or the dogs owner) will comment on that event.

Yeah sometimes kids are too loud in a restaurant; I better start stomping those kids into the ground with no repercussions.

So you'd punish an animal abuser worse than someone who hurt other humans.

Doesn't justify it at all killing the dogs if it wasn't harming anyone.

They get a pass due to being property of another human being and afforded legislative protection under animal welfare laws.

    The only way this fire-fighter can escape prosecution is to;

    1) Show he had livestock being attacked by the dogs

    2) Showing the dogs were a threat to his person

If he doesn't he'll lose the job (Already a given) with no benefits and face criminal prosecution.

Not to mention dogs were/are breed to be human companions. So yes, that does put them above other animals.
