Europeans in the audience - Do you feel united?

    Ok,

So I'm not European, from the US here.

But my question to you Europeans is: Do you feel united?

I guess it might be a silly question, maybe you're not supposed to be united. I guess I'm confused with how you perceive the European Union, does this make you all feel united?

I identify as a Finn first, Nordic second, European third. I don't consider most Europeans to be my 'kin' in the same way as I feel about Finnish and Nordic people.

Is that because of the history? Is "European," you think, too new of a concept for people to identify with?

I don't even feel united with my entire country, so no.

Depends i guess. On the world stage of politics, yes. In sports nope. Overall yes, i feel closer to my fellow europeans and i hope this will continue and work better with most of the old farts gone. But the morons still vote right, so it´ll take some more time.

Well, I guess it is a strange question. But I would have to say I also don't think I identify with the views shared elsewhere in other states of the US, but I still feel unified with with.

    Not the slightest..

There is no common European spirit, we are much too different..

    - Scandinavians feel a degree of connection to eachother, but not the rest of Europe..
    - People from BeNeLux have a similar connection to eachother..
    - UK, Germany and France are pretty much 3 unique species, however due to sheer size, that doesn't matter..
    - East block countries.. 10 of them were accepted into EU at the same time.. Maybe they have a connection... Don't know though...

Nationality is really strong, no matter if you are talking about Germany, France, Hungary or Spain

We are far from united. Very far.

    United in what?
I don't discriminate, I hate everyone equally. I despice nationalism and group mentality. I don't identify with any ethnicity or nationality.

Similar to the above, but in the UK it goes even deeper. I identify as Bristish, English, Anglosphere, then Europeon. Hell, I might even go as far to identify with my town, then county before the above list. I love our Europeon neighbours, and the fact that I can travel freely between most of them very easily. There are however HUGE differences in culture between neighboouring countries, which langugage being the biggest barrier to UK travellers when on the mainland.

A lot of mainland European countries are more close-knit than the UK, but it allows us to think of it as "us and them" which we seem to enjoy. It's basically Little Islander syndrome and I love it personally

I will echo what others here have said, first and formost im Norwegian and secondly Nordic.

Im also a European, even though we are not part of the EU. If I feel united? Not really, but I dont feel "united" within my own country either. I tend to stay a bit on the sidelines of society, and I avoid interacting or taking part except for work.

I don't feel united at all, mostly as the posters above said. Too much individual nationality. It also makes Europe more interesting, as it shows very different cultures. Except the Nordic folks, they are all the same to me.
Much love to Indicate for creating. Eis' work

    Nope.

As a citizen of a country that recently joined the EU, I feel disliked by older EU citizens because of the actions of a small minority that is stirring up trouble in EU countries. I feel especially like people from Netherlands, Italy and France hate my guts even though I never left my country let alone cause trouble, and never miss an opportunity to bash my country in their media, especially the French people.

Are we united? Not at all. The EU is a union based on economic and political factors, not one based on social and cultural factors.

I am not a strong believer in unity based on geographical location. I don't care for nationalism, patriotism or any of that - people are people, regardless of where they come from. I form bonds based on their opinions and ethics, not the listed country in their passport.

Do someone from USA feel Northern American? Do someone from Mexico feel like they are united with Canada?

Europe is a continent, just like northen America. There is however, alot more different countries in europe, that have caused alot of wars. The European union was created to prevent european countries from going to war with each other, and so far it have work. EU is a political organisation, nothing more really.

The only countries that have high european identity, are the larger countries, since they are the once that got most power, and therefor most influence on how things are runned.

Besides, countries next to each other, often banter and jokes about each other, just like USA vs Canada.

I am Northern German first, don't even identify that much with southern Germany, the cultural differences are manyfold. In terms of trade I work as a European, but that is business first. I feel more connected to Denmark and the Nordics than Bavaria. It's hard to say.

Overall, when it comes to what's best for the human race I am a globalist though. I feel everyone should have the same chances to live their lives to the best it can be.

I felt very much part of the community when I was living in the US though. Very hard to define "European" imo.

I live on the continent named Europe but that's where it ends. Of course have my preferences when it comes to people from certain regions. Love hanging out and talking to my friends from the Scandinavian countries but when it comes to Europe, or the European Union, nope, screw it. Live in Amsterdam myself but can't wait to get out of NL and the EU in general. Norway's my destination somewhere in the future.
