Rumors of a bot ban wave

Among other less legit forums (Where they get the bots from) that are having people whining about getting banned (And threads being deleted super fast in that section) it appears that their has been a bot banning wave, some pvp bots, leveling bots, and instance farm ones have all been reported.

Good for blizzard if true...hopefully they keep it up.
    You're a towel.

I figured that a bot ban wave would coincide with the token sales program.

In order to get people to buy tokens with $ to auction off, they need to motivate them to use the token-for-gold system instead of going to a gold seller. If they ban as many bots as possible a couple of weeks before the token system goes "live", then they will have a ready-made audience anxious to "buy gold" via said token system, since the gold sellers will have been cut off and run out of supply.

That said, I sure hope that all of the PvP botting gets banned this wave, too.

Good. I currently know some people who bot as mythic raiders, and it bothers me. Also it wreaks havoc on the economy for the farm botters. My server's economy basically feels like communism. It's been exceedingly hard to make gold. It is to the point where everyone is using trade skill master, and if you're not, good luck. However, if everyone uses it, the margins just get tighter and tighter. Too many goblins. I feel like blizz ought to change some of the drop rates and crafting requirements to make some items more costly. The low cost of items only serves as a way to further dampen the economy and depress individuals from making good gold. It's just like in today's society where some people think a million dollars is a lot of money. Where other people will spend a million dollars in 2 hours and not even care. It's all relative, but this rift in the classes is what will eventually lead to much bigger societal problems down the road. Sacrifice the majority of your population for the very few is not a good model.

You know, you say its like communism, then the fix you recommend is exactly communism.

No, I didn't recommend a fix. The fix is very complicated, but has to do more with anti-communism than it does communism if there is one.

The main problem with our current society is not capitalism, it is our justice system and political system, plain and simple. The way our current system works is much more communistic than a free market society. However our political candidates have done a great job of tricking the lesser-intelligent people into believing otherwise. Also, changes were made by blizzard to further drive down the cost of mats. Controlling pricing is communistic, especially when it suppresses pricing.

Nice to hear some good news. Kudos to Blizzard. At least legitimized gold buying is better than botting and account theft.

I'm surprised it took so long. I really wish they'd make a better across the board effort to clean up the community: bots, ninjas, gold sellers, etc.

Blizzard do tend to do the bans en-masse, rather than a constant cat and mouse game they can't win.
Botting is going to adapt faster than blizzard can block them.
So why spend the resources doing that, instead hitting the players harder by them investing more into the game before being hurt.
That IMO could be more effective at dissuading players.

Unfortunately in-game when you see any given player botting for a considerable time, it does make it look like a lack of activity on blizzard's side and that doesn't give a good impression.

They'll probably get 3 days each after botting for 3 months. Such a tragic loss for them. I can't stand botters but if I worked at Blizz I'd do everything i could to ban them all.

Knows someone who bots. Doesn't do anything about it.

I'd like to see them roll back their gear and gold to a certain point too once they got back from their "vacation".

Yes, banning those accounts permanently removes a ton of gold from the economy, which would have inflated the cost of a token. This will actually drive token prices down.

Most of the users banned were using a very old version of a bot. Just saying. It is not anything to read into.

Yes, it's a new ban wave targetting the well known bot.
6 months ban for first offenders, permaban for others.

I hope you are correct. East coast schools are letting out right now, on top of the servers having been down for maintenance until a couple hours ago. I reckon we'll know for sure within the next few hours.

    Good.

Hopefully they continue with them. There's no excuse for botting.

Given that most bots are PvP bots, they should just add a captcha to the BG/Arena entrance.

And so many people say that Blizzard likes botters and never bans them.
