How do you handle os loot?

So recently I thought of the idea that we should funnel os loot to dedicated backup healers / tanks after seeing two tanking pieces going to two different people. One of which doesn't actually tank. The others didn't agree. So I was wandering how you handle os loot. Do you ever funnel it to people who are dedicated tank / healer back ups? Do you handle it in another way?

That's obvious. If healer/tank/dps don't want a loot it goes to MT3 or alt healers (we have a priest who play shadow/disc).

    DPS os loot are /rand

It goes to the people that play their OS in raids over those that don't.

    Pretty much this.

TBH with all the various gear methods these days, we just let people OS roll for it and let it be done.

We haven't had any issues with people taking loot for specs they don't play or people who do play specs more often missing loot.

Best way to do it hands down.

In practice we just let people roll on it, but giving priority to gearing up a third/backup tank and a backup healer or two makes sense. Nothing worse than not being able to raid mythic because one of your tanks lost power or something.

We have designated people who can be called on to use their OS, and they take prio over anyone else's OS.

It depents on how serious people take their offspec. If someone has a very serious alt, it gets geared. Serious offspec? Gets gear. Crappy offspec that's never used? Why bother.

We do it mostly as u said, Healing Gear goes to Our Ret/Elemental/Boomkin as these 3 are the "offhealers" Tank Loot goes to our Monk/Ret (Yes our Ret plays all 3 Speccs in the Raid ). Dps Loot goes to Healer, which we dont need in 4 HEaler Bossfights (e.g. Druid/Monk) or just to an DD offspecc, Tank Offspecc we mostly decide that by /rnd of no DD needs it.

All OS loot goes to OS thats played ofc.
So greedy ppl that roll for gear they wont use.

We have a few people who have been asked if they want to fill in a role with OS if needed and they get OS loot prio as soon as mains are covered. We have 2 OS tanks for this purpose, with one even prio over the other (effectively our 3rd tank).

You don't. You don't handle os loot.

we have one backup Tank who will get all Tank Items not needed by the two Maintanks. If he doesn't need 'em we just let roll everyone with tankingoffspec.

Often it is not enough to have just ONE backup Tank oder Healer!

So I always play Tank as an Alt and gear it good enough to replace one of the Maintanks if needed

to anyone that actually plays an OS lol
or at least the likelihood of the gear going to be used opposed to sitting in bank

We let people roll for off spec together in general, but we specifically check with offtanks/off healers present to ask if they can use a piece during the process so we can give them the piece if they need it. If it's not an upgrade for them then it's off spec roll for everyone.

And honestly, with having gone through 2 tanks and a healer (and 1 off tank and 1 off healer) allready since November, I'm glad we did this from the start. You never know when someone is going to stop playing (temporarily or otherwise). It pays to have back ups.
