Voted "right of center", as pretty much every American *should*, if they know anything about the political spectrum. Republicans and Democrats are both right-wing parties. We don't have a true left wing party here in the States.

For those that disagree with Ferg's statement, you should take the time to look up what was actually done in the 70s and 80s. Reagan might not even be a successful Democrat by today's standards (yes, both parties in the US have shifted that far right). As another example, some of the highly conservative Democrats from the mid-west in the 80s ended up being the most liberal Democrats by the early 2000s due to the political shift (their voting and concepts never changed).

I myself am slightly left of actual center socially, and slightly right of actual center fiscally (which means I'm an extremist liberal according the current generation who thinks history started 3 years ago).

I'm neither I'm just an American citizen living my days the way I want. I guess you would call that center but I don't label myself with all these political names and words. I think the whole democrat/republican and left wing/right wing is just the most pointless thing and I find it really stupid and I think it's a major reason why we are not able to move forward with a lot of things. I do not favor one side in politics. I follow my common sense and that's it unlike these politicians who want to be politically correct all the time and wanting to control everything.

There are very few issues I do not share with liberals in the US.

I do not have a formed opinion on abortion, mostly because I haven't determined where a fetus becomes a person, thus I don't participate in those arguments.

I do not believe in gun control (but I also don't go AMG SECOND AMENDMENT!!!!) and prefer a system where gun owners are licensed, trained and checked for mental health issues, as well as better mental health systems in general.

So in those two areas I am a bit more right wing. But not by much.

I don't know, I change my mind pretty often depending on the political parties in the coalition and the opposition, I've voted Liberal(European liberal, I don't even know what the big deal in the US is about), Christian democrat (not actually christian in anything other then name), Green, Socialist and moderate right.

Also depends on for what I'm voting, Regional, Flemish, Federal and European are entirly different scenario's.

Left and Right aren't relative terms, they have definitions. He's explaining that anyone who is American who votes for either D or R is by definition, right wing, just to different degrees.

If Left and Right were relative terms then asking people from around the world would make it a truly stupid poll because it varies by country. Almost everything in Europe is considered "left wing" by the USA media but they aren't left wing at all, many are slightly right. That doesn't make them left no matter how many times Fox news tells you, it simply makes them less right wing than over in the USA.

I think we should stop defining political parties with "left" and "right", its like saying a picture of a rose is red even tough its the picture of a rose in a field filled with cows and tree's and stuff.

Instead of saying "this party has a rightwing agenda" we should say: "this party thinks we should cut back on social welfare spending, that we should clean up the air and that it should be made easier for the individual to start up a company".
(This is an example, there is no intended similarity with an existing political party)

Judge a party by its proposals on how to run society, not on the colours it claims to represent.
