WarForged Staff vs NON WF Mace/Offhand

So I recently bonus rolled a warforged staff of Blackhand Heroic.

I have been using it as it seems like an upgrade from my Mace/Offhand, however, the mace is socketed, the staff is not.

Is the slight ilvl enough to keep using the staff or should I go back to my Mace/Shield....?

    ps - staves are ewww

    how are the stats ?
I would rather go for staff cuz of the spellpower you gain from the weapon, but if the stats are not that great, you could go for the 1h/shield.

    Stats are ok, Mastery/Crit.

But with no socket on the staff I lose 10 mastery, and a bit of haste overall, however gain an asstonne of crit. The spellpower/Int is why its equipped....

With ok stats staff is best for sure. You win a part of the 50 gem in WF off course and weapon gives too much SP to switch.
Weapon WF is usually better than weapon gem unlike all other pieces.

Go with the staff. SP > difference in stats and crit is still beneficial. No question, certainly the staff.

Just mog it to Apostle of Argus and everything will be fine.

is the armor value of using a shield as resto actually worth considering for any of the BRF fights in general?
it's an additional 10% dmg reduction versus using a staff or offhand.

this was my first thought, but the shield would only reduce physical damage right? or melee swings only or something?

I'm not able to check the ingame details, i know it 'used to be' only physical damage reduction so my thought was that this is still the case. Perhaps someone can clarify?
And if it is, how many boss fights have physical damage aoe abilities? Kromog Breath? all the crap adds on Blast Furnance's melee swings etc but that's at least minor? Maidens?

Not enough to warrant using it.

It doesn't work on any of the raidwide physical damage abilities (even though you'd think it would) - the only thing that armor(or a shield) really help with is face tanking the wolves on Flamebender since those are actual melee hits.
