Speaking of, isn't football a peasant sport to the US, only their kids play it until they can start playing "proper sports". That seems to be the general consensus whenever threads pop up on these forums.

So they hold no regard for the sport, they just don't want the big bad Russia to get to play with the ball.

If America really cared I'm sure they could buy the World Cup hosting from Russia for the right price.

International football is a joke anyway

It'll happen in 3 years, its not like they can take it away now, and besides, since when does the U.S care about football? Oh right... U.S politics are involved this time, and not a word about how horrible the Qa'tar would be for a world cup. It'll be the same for the netherlands either way, great group stage and then they'll start fucking up.

Brazil also had its own problems, its not like the FIFA has ever given a shit about the state of the country the world cup gets hosted it.

Football is increasing in popularity by the younger americans who is growing up with internet and can make their own judgements and not get brainwashed by the american media. But yea, the business men in congress probably have no clue about "soccer". I can recall that USA didnt want Russia to have Sochi either, but that happened, and The USA were there nonetheless. It's a bit hypocritical, the whole "outrage".

It's not about the sport for USA, more so for Russia who actually have a well developed interest in football with lots of big clubs that already have good arenas to use. But we should not kid ourselves either, Russia wants this as a propaganda tool, just like Sochi-lympics was meant to increase tourism to this rejuvenated city.

Brazil is another example, they probably wanted it to show off their new country which have been greatly invigorated with better economy. Sadly, for most of us interested it was the uproaring citizens that caught the headlines. You can't hide the poor, despite how much you want to.

Russia paid their bribes fair and square though

Russia has a hooligan problem that makes what was going on during the 1980s in England seem like a teddy bears picnic and Qatar has slave labour and strict Islamic rules http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Qatar that could see alot of supporters in hot water especially if you are gay or like to have a drink which most football supporters do.

    Its fucking insane

Sorry, but discriminating gays is not purely a religion thing. Its a human thing in general.

Yea its fucked up, the footballs not even important, its a big fucking party. Where a bunch of people from all over the world get together and rock the fuck out. Qatar is in for a culture shock.

Russia is a shithole kleptocracy but they did pay the best bribes fair and square and the actually have a team that might win more than 0 matches (Qatar lol going out asap)

To be fair to America the only credible man to associate with FIFA was Michael J. Garcia (an american) whos report on corruption got swept under the carpet and now hes been swept aside too along with all his investigations. Angel Maria Villar, Michel D'Hooghe, Worawi Makudi, Franz Beckenbauer and Harold Mayne-Nicholl will all be counting thier blessings. (along with every african voter lolol).

Sepp Blatter will never be deposed. President for life yo.

Oh really. It's a bigger issue the more religious the country is tho so there's definately a correlation. We don't see homosexuals any different than hetrosexuals in my country and we're probably the least religious country on earth. Hell, we even had a hockey team change their colors to the rainbow to promote homosexuals in icehockey as that specific culture is one of the cultures that still look down upon homosexuals. And the recognition and praise they got because of this is huge. I can imagine this being done in USA, outcries from republicans and religious fanatics would force the team to change colors, am i wrong?

I'm more concerned with the Qatar 2022 mess. How to you have a country lie about their ability to build the correct venues (promise air conditioned stadiums), use slave labor to build it (look it up), has a horrible record on human rights, and we have to move the time of the year? You don't move the winter Olympics to June and July,....

So, in other words, if they pull out from Crimea then we are all good. Go ahead and keep discriminating on gays, that's fine. We here in the US will seek to destroy an entire State based solely on speculation of discrimination, but in Russia where there is REAL systematic and ongoing abuse of homosexuals - no problem, we are cool with that.

John McCain and Dickhead Durbin wouldn't know Leo Messi even if he drilled them in the face with a ball. Fucking hypocrites.

Russia's gay community is hardly under dire threat. Meanwhile, in Qatar....

Please Sepp Blatter has the "one ring" he will never be removed unless he removes himself and if and when that happens his replacement will be of "his" choosing and nobody else.

Unless those "urges" involve millions in bribes and favours, FIFA won't care.

I want to agree with the senators, I really do, I mean FIFA is corrupt and no doubt bribery was involved with the selection of Russia and Qatar.

But on the other hand, I don't think the senators are doing this because of their love of fair play and good sport, but more because of "we can't have Russia getting all the media attention for 2 months".

Not going to happen, football is religion and religion is corrupt to the bone, not much we can do atm, altough I do have hopes for the future.

Which is also why FIFA can behave like this. They don't give a single fuck, they knew the voters were bribed. I like their new idea of a independent panel that decides which country gets it, instead of voting. Hopefully we will see progress when they announce 2026 world cup.
