Would you fire an employee for bad B.O?

I know it's hard to talk about and if you lived and worked long enough it's probably come up, so if you were in charge of an employee with bad Body Oder as in poor hygene would you let them go?

And you have talked to them about it at least once. Say it's a security guard.

Depends on what kind of job. Construction work? Nope. They are car salesmen at a car dealership then yes.

Fair minded but what if it's a guard or office worker?

Office worker if it's bad enough yes as it will affect the other employees a security guard depends if they are a night guard who is mostly on their own then probably not unless they are causing the area they are in to smell even when they aren't there. If they work around other people all the time or customers then yes.

If they're not taking care of themselves chances are those habits are going to manifest in their work performance.

Dude in the Army (Infantry) this was a constant problem with some guys. There was honestly few things that irritated me more then having to take a 19-21 year old man to his damn barracks room and sit on his bed while he takes a shower because the bastards wouldn't take one on their own...
It honestly though depends on the situation. A job I had after the military was just a simple factory job and I got promoted to a "zone manager" which meant I had almost no additional pay but tons of additional responsibillities. This wasn't something that I ever dealt with, but if a guy showed up to the pre-work meeting smelling terrible, I might have warned them and if it was a continuing problem send them home to rectify the matter. If they were like me and sweat profusely and 1/2 way through the day smell ripe I probably wouldn't care.
If it was a customer service job where they dealt with customers face to face... yeah that woudln'tcoudln't fly.

yes.. maintaining a certain amount of hygiene in the work place is expected.

while i dont know if by law a person can be fired, surely something protects a company that has discussed the issue with the employee several times, has documented and written him/her up due to constantly needing to meet up, and eventually firing the person.

Depends on the job, I guess. If it's some kind of job where the employee is working outdoors or not close enough to other people for it to bother anyone, I wouldn't really care.

But yeah, I would if I had customers complaining about the employee's BO. I'd probably have a talk first, but if things didn't improve...yeah, fired.

It...sort of depends. I live in an "at will" state, meaning employment can be terminated by either party at any time, with or without reason. So by law, I could fire you without giving a reason and be fine. Even if my reason for firing you is that you stink like hell, I won't get in trouble as long as I just say "you're fired" and don't specify that.

If it's a professional job, they should be expected to maintain a professional demeanor, including caring for one's hygiene.

If the problem is noticeable enough for either co-workers or customers to notice and complain, and the offender refuses to maintain basic hygiene after multiple consultations regarding the issue, then the loss of a job may convince them to take a shower once in a while to stay employed.

There are also other situations that may contribute to the issue such as a medical condition, or medication that alters the basic chemistry of the person taking them.
I would find out if they can control it, and weigh the issue against job performance and if I can schedule them to a less populated shift.

There was a guy who worked for me who's BO was so bad I had to clench my teeth to avoid vomiting.

We called HR and asked how to handle it, they ended up releasing him when he said he didn't believe in showering.

Can't just fire them, need to find out of it's a medical condition first.

I mean, in the context of this discussion it should be pretty obvious that an intervention would be attempted first. If someone's management strategy is to fire anyone who presents with a problem, they're kind of clueless.
