What are the more ''exotic'' meat types you've eaten?

I've always been interested in eating bear. My country is one of the few ( if only ) european countries that still has bears in the wilderness and I vowed I'd try bear meat upon a day but I just never got to it. Karl May's western novels usually made bear paw to be a delicacy.

Rabbit was something I was interested too, until it tasted like liver which really put me off.

But to list mine, ostrich, octopus, lobster, crab and a bunch of fish I can't name.

Bear (Its ok. It was stew though, not 'bear paw')
    Elk (not super exotic)
    Rabbit (not super exotic)
    Crocodile
    Ostrich
Bison (not super exotic, at least in the US)
    Duck
    Deer (freshly killed, delicious)

None of that except the Crocodile and Ostrich seems exotic to me, but ymmv.

Right, so you'd just go out in the wilderness and shoot a defenseless bear for the sake of it's meat, when there's already so many other alternatives which doesn't involve shooting an animal just to taste it? Quite a disgusting mentality to keep. Do you have pets? If so, imagine someone just wanting to taste your dog and shoots it, then fries it up.

It's mentalities like this that makes me hate humanity. We don't value life, but profit and desires. Species go extinct and years later we whine about how Africa's Savannah's are empty when we spent so much on seeing lions and rhino's.

I'm not trying to sound like yet another preaching vegetarian, but honestly, I just don't get it. How can it possibly sound right to just kill an animal to TASTE it? I get why different cultures might resort to it, maybe because it's impossible to grow food etc, but we who can just go down to the nearest store and buy a fresh batch of apples etc... Why?

There's a restaurant in the nearest city where I live, which imports meats like zebra, kangaroo and other exotic animals and I just seethe with rage whenever I hear people talk about it, like it's okay.

Also, the meat industry is beyond disgusting, just the whole concept of breeding for slaughter, not to mention all the anti-biotics the meat is filled with due to wounds caused by lack of space. It won't be long before people grow immune to anti-biotics and will die from infections...

I wonder how many actually saw the slaughter/witnessed it and still ate the animal?

Kangaroo, some kind of whale and goat head. The first 2 were really good, the goat head was... interesting. The actual meat was good, but I decided to skip the eyes and such.

Describe exotic, not had anything i would consider exotic, though the shop down the road sells kangaroo/ostrich and crocodile steaks but its not something i want to eat. However i have and do eat pig/cow on a regular basis and if we were in a place like India they would definitely count that as exotic and probably condemn you for such a thing.

By traveling a lot during the past few years I've gotten around to eat quite a few different meats:

    Guinea Pig (in Ecuador)
Some big ass maggots (in Ecuador as well)
Ostrich (in Switzland, surprisingly it seems to be quite common there )
    Snake (in Indonesia)
    Elk (in Sweden)
Crocodile & Kangaroo (in a special restaurant home in Germany)
The usual stuff like deer and rabbit that are indigenous to Europe

Well i guess *exotic* is relative to where you live but for me from Denmark :

    Crokodile/Aligator ( was ok )
Ostrich ( pretty good tbh )
    Bison ( good )
    Elk ( good )
a few *unormal animal parts*.... including brain / stomach / tail even eyes ( not a fan of any of it tbh. )
Giraffe ( got very little but it was ok i guess )
Horse ( can actualy buy this here in some stores, taste a bit like beef but got a sugary taint )
Shark (smoked belly taste a bit like smoked eel) and as steak ( not a fan was very chewy)
Rabbit ( good tho not a lot of meat on them taste indeed like chicken )
½ worm other half was in the apple but i making that count anyway !
also once got Tofu .... you know vegan *meat* NOT A FAN

Thats what i can remember been a chef for many years and are not picky .... willing to taste most but the line is for now at bugs.

If it counts, I've had sea urchin. It was an odd texture, but pretty good.

Caribou and moose are really freaking good.

    Kangaroo and ostrich.

You won't get any more exotic things in a generic middle european super market.

Banana slug was the one "exotic" ...hammer it flat and ...Tabasco..lots .
    Still rather gnarly

Honestly I don't think anything on the planet is all that exotic of a meat.

Ostrich (burger place/chain sells it) not bad I rather like it over turkey burgers and chicken sandwiches.
Croc, slightly different texture but..yeah..kinda a cross between dark and white mat chicken
Snake same more or less as Croc but very clean tasting I think
Frogs, not enough meat but..see above
Bear (Had it as a loaf of meat like bologna)holy crap it was greasy..like..eating a jar of Vaseline.
Elk,Bison,Deer,Antelope,...horned quadrupeds probably the best out of the above...more flavor..larger animal more blood.
Haven't gone bigger than a bear yet.
Insects ...crickets roasted, some meal worms and grubs.
Not sure about flavors on bugs...kinda taste the same to me.

Again, I don't see animals as exotic meats...it is a means to an end to eat and survive.
Even the nastiest tasting meat...will help you live(unless its nasty because its poisoned or rotten...)
