    Gold rewards are ridicolous.

    3 casual/ranked wins = 10 gold
    9 arena wins = 255 gold

    can they be anymore jews.

I know right?! It's almost like they're trying to entice people actually buy packs with cash. Like they're a business who wants to make money or something.

    Pretty crazy.

I don't mind the gold reward, but what annoys me is common card as reward in arena. It's happens so often for me now. I go 5 wins gets 45 gold, a common card and pack then with 9 wins gets 160g, 2 common cards, and pack.

    0 cost 0 risk = 10 gold
100 gold = pack of cards
150 gold entry fee = pack of cards + winnings

it's like going to the casino you can either serve drinks, buy stuff in the gift store, or gamble with your money

At least they don't reward more gold the higher your rank is.

but you do spent 150g just to enter arena.. and the outcome isn't a fixed amount...
That's like finding it unfair that your savings account doesn't generate as much as a risky investment.

The casual/ranked gold is only a small extra because its actually very easy to get, , except if your in a high rank. With arena you already pay 150 gold beforehand and try to win it back. I don't see the unfairness in this.

He just tried to tell everyone he had 9 arena wins.

Except he didn't know 12 is the limit now.

    It's fine as it is...

One thing sucks in Arena tho.

    FUCKING GVG PACKS only

Really, why it's not a pack talon that you can spend on a pack of your choice?

As a f2p player that only spent some real money on pve expansions this is horrible... I played a lot of arena pre-gvg and got sort of good at it - could get more value of my 150g than just flat out spending 100g on packs...

but now... I don't really need those gvg cards. I have all the good ones - dr boom and the bunch of good common / rare / epic mechs. Majority of gvg cards are utter garbage and instant DE's. So I'm rather torn on that one.... could still play arena for fun (I really like this mode), or i could spend gold on classic packs BUT I'M LOCKING MYSELF OUT OF FUN GAME MODE doing that!!!

The problem is their business model essentially only works to deter new players at this point. A new player is not going to be able to get the solo adventures with gold any time within the next several months and at least of few of those cards are practically required. So right off the bat you're looking at, what, $40-$50? Add on top of that you need packs. Packs are easier to get for the most part as long as you do dailies. Problem is both casual and low-level ranked are absolutely filled to the brim with netdecks. So you're a new player, have very few cards, and you have to play against decks that can reach legendary 1 against players with much more knowledge of the game? You could spend hours trying to get a couple of wins (and you might as well not even bother with the piddly reward every three wins).

I understand they need to make money on the game, I'm not saying otherwise, but if you're currently playing the game without major pieces of the different netdecks then chances are you're not going to get far and you're going to take quite a while getting there. Hell, I've been playing since the game was in beta (not religiously, I played in bursts) and simply from crappy luck I'm still stuck with no decent outs vs. netdecks that I run into constantly at rank 20 and in casual. Honestly, it really couldn't hurt to up the amount of gold you get for wins, or at the very least give you more gold per 3 wins but keep the same cap so you don't need as many wins in a day.

    Yup.

The game is not free to play, it's free to lose.

Whoever is entering the game with the idea of figuring out if it's fun or not without paying is looking at several months worth of grind until they can stand a chance at all.

that's why i tell new players to do a mix of quests and arena since they will probably enjoy arena more right off the bat.

    This sums it up well.
No cost to entry in play mode, so lesser rewards.
Arguable if the rewards are sufficient though.

That's the reason why i stopped arena, and only do dailies everyday then stop.

By the time you are done spending months grinding.... new expansion, the cycle never ends, you are always behind.

BRM is perhaps better in this regard than Naxx (or maybe the jury is still out), but that seems to be the idea - to make playing without paying uncomfortable. Nothing against this, but new players should know that playing without paying is indeed this - uncomfortable. It's either pay or lose to everything apart from other noobs like yourself for several months.

This huge paywall is also the reason why rush hunter & mech mage (and zoo warlock earlier on) are so popular and often make 40% of your ladder games.

These decks are really cheap to put together. They usually don't run a single epic or legendary card in them ("classic" zoo does not, typical face hunter does not, mech mage does not unless it's Antonidas)

If you wanted to play a control warrior for example, yes you can get most of the basic tools for relatively low cost (all the spells, draw engines, weapons - there's few epics there but epics aren't that hard to get).

But then you need minions. You just can't replace Dr Boom with a War Golem. You can't replace Sylvanas with a Boulderfist Ogre. Your deck doesn't have Grommash, you miss out on your 10/12 damage finishing move. You need those legendaries for this deck to work properly and therefore many people can't even play this deck correctly. I tried a budget version with just Dr Boom, Loatheb and bunch of random big dudes in there, while it does win some games it isn't really making it past rank 10. It shits on cancer rush decks tho still, hunters usually concede after seeing my armor gain outrush their dmg output

This will get worse as the game progresses with more expansions. There are tons of new players joining Hearthstone every day and they just face this crushing defeat. I started playing HS with the first official season and still lost 90% of my games at start due to people that have been playing for 4 beta seasons already...

I never understand why people purposely ignore dailies when talking about gold rewards. It's almost like they know it defeats the argument.

It doesn't defeat the argument, dailies give very little gold.

That's the point of the dailies though. They are there to provide some gold, not much, but enough that, over a period of time, a player may progress.

Out of curiosity, how much gold do you think dailies should give?

  20. #20
It used to be 5 wins for 5 gold.
Considering how much better the quests have been since the above mentioned change, I don't see how anyone honestly can complain.
    It's easy being self-sufficient.
