Why does one gender get upset when the opposite gender gets fanservice?

Saw lots of guys hating 50 Shades of Gray and ladies hating sexy girls in video games; lots of gays hating yaoi and ladies hating the sexualisation of lesbians, too. Why's that? What's wrong with sexy stuff that is not meant for your half of the population?

Sexualisation leads to objectification, and objectification is also known as dehumanisation. Dehumanisation leads to hate and abuse.

I dislike all fan service equally.

Yeah, but sexualisation is natural. You can't destroy it; at best you can sexualise guys more so it'd be more even.

I dislike 50 Shades because it's shitty housewife porn that misrepresents more than one thing.
I'm a guy and I dislike oversexualization of women in games, when it's blatantly done to appease with no other logic or reason behind it, like ridiculous female "armor", because many times it's tasteless and overdone. That said, I have nothing against equal sexualization of men, so if both men and women wear a loincloth and one plate over their crotch it's fine to me. I'm still a guy and I still enjoy sexual things, but it needs to be done in a proper way.
I'm a straight guy, I dislike yaoi fans because they're insufferably annoying and overbearing, not the yaoi itself.

I think a lot of people are very insecure about their bodies, their sexuality and their sexual performance. They project that insecurity by acting out against things that are sexual, aka threatening to their ego.

I think this is probably right.

Offended by the misrepresention of the topics at hand? I do not know about 50 Shades of Gray, but from what I have heard happens in there it is very out there and by no means representative of what it supposedly describes. I can understand taking offense to presenting something outrageous as the norm to people who do not know any better.
Why wouldn't gays be offended by that kind of yaoi fanfiction that supposedly gets rid of any girls but the one the author identifies with and then turns all guys into pseudo-girls (with a dick) who fuck each other indiscriminately while said girl directs them? As far as I understand it being gay involves liking guys as a guy, so why would they read something where everyone is a guy in name only?

I don't mind when opposite genders get fan service. I do however, think its a problem how in certain things (video games), you can't NOT give fan service to males and still get your video game published. I'm totally okay with people who want to make video games with boob windows. What bothers me is when publishers go "no boob windows? shut the project down."

This is a very good question. When it comes to the issue of sexualization in the media, it's strange that people tend to want to censor and limit women being shown in a certain way instead of level the playing field by sexualizing both men and women. I personally think that no matter how liberal someone appears to be in their politics, their reflexive nature is a puritanical one.

If a difference even exists. My point still stands.

Exactly, that's what people were angry about. People who are actually into BDSM and the different variations of such are upset because the movie heavily misrepresents it and puts it in a bad light.

Yaoi seems to have almost only female fans. I have yet to encounter a guy that likes it.

    This is patently, untrue.

    What it is, is propaganda.

Japan is pretty much ontop of that, they love their androgynous men/women (just look at their idols), and they're still a very male-dominated society with plenty of mysoginy.

Yeah, perhaps people should learn to have a health level of respect and appreciation towards anything sexiualised. The problem I have with anything sexualised is that most people degrade themselves when it comes to sex, it's all fuck fuck fuck, and really WTH! There is rarely anything erotic or sensational when people are flirting.
