Building this PC. Yes or no?

I want to keep my budget around $1,000. This is going to be my first build so I'm nervous as hell and a family member put this list together. This is going to be a gaming PC that will probably be playing most of the games coming out this year.

Would like to know if I should change anything. I am starting from scratch as I'm giving my old setup to my mother since her computer decided to crap out on her and my current computer is a toaster anyway that can barely run anything.

    No rebate price.
    Better performance CPU.
    Very good MoBo.
    GPU is semi-passive, better connectors.
    Better PSU overall.
Monitor is decent for the price, flicker free and decent default.

Modified Kos' build, although you're much more reliant on rebates:

Stunning build for the cost, including a 250GB SSD, which is where the increase in overall cost comes from.

DO NOT GET A 960! The 960 is very bad performancewise. Even a 770 is faster. Either get a 970 or a 280x/290(x). I had to remove the SSD to make room for the Monitor.

...yeah, no. Don't listen to that. ^ the 960 is a good card, and can run most games on Ultra with the exception of some of the newer AAA titles, need to tone down some to high. But I'd still get a 970 with a 1k budget.

They will. Just maybe not 60 fps constantly. I have personally tested out a 960. It doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Tell that to my 960. As Masterguns said, it does not get the credit it deserves, It is an excellent card for the price.

    Also:

Yes, a 280x is a little better, it's also more expensive. You can get a ASUS Strix 960 for $200. Other 960's are cheaper. The cheap 280x's start at $200.

Looking at the page on that link for BF4 you can see the 960 gets 51.5 FPS and the 280x gets 54.4 FPS at 1080p. Neither is over 60. Then if you look at 1440p, they are both above 30. The 280x performs better, but still not 60. So if you use VSync, they will both play at 30FPS.

No doubt, the 280x has a little more power to it then the 960, however, the 960 will perform very similarly in most games, costs a little less, has a lower TDP so therefore generates less heat therefore does not need as much cooling so is generally quieter as well.
