this game is fun and frustrating at the same time.

i'm on official server 49 (not able to transfer until they decide to enable it) and we have a super-tribe that was unaffected by the duping wipe and they completely dominate the server.

any whiff of negativity towards their tribe on chat is met with destruction of your base and everything you have, dinos and all.

it's quite horrible because they have nothing to do but grief the lower developed tribes and they have all the resources as they dominate a majority of the land caves.

i want to transfer as i completely lost everything to this tribe, but im unfortunately stuck and have banded with other destroyed tribes in hopes of being able to take them out.

official server 49 is dangerous, and if you're willing to brave going there, be wary of the tribe Essence and their leader Nightmare.

I agree with this completely. What ends up happening is that because night is so long, they end up making it not really dark and dumb-down the disadvantage of being out at night.... so basically night becomes day anyway.

A better solution, and a way to preserve the difficulty of playing at night while NOT forcing some players to always play at night is to have just like a 4 hour day and 1 hour night cycle, and have sunrise and sunset happen during the daylight time.. so basically you have 1 hours of real ´night´.. where you can have all kinda negative things going on and keep the game dark, and you can also have enough of a sunset time (15-20 mins) so that players have time to prepare for the nighttime phase. One hour of nighttime is enough time that players can´t just ignore it, but short enough that you can mess with players and make things much more difficult for them.

Twitch event taking place.. survivor games format. Epic as hell. They display the profile pic of each person who dies in the sky like in the hunger games. Looks awesome. Definitely seems like the best run "survivor games" so far of all the games that have tried it on twitch. No huge delays at the start.. no lag.. no issues so far.

Ya out of all the dozens of 'survival' games that have come out in the last few years, I have found this to be the first one I have found fun. I found the funnest way to play is with a group of a friends on a private server.

And major props to the devs. It's been out in early access for 2 months now? And they ahve pumped out new content, update and patches out like a well oiled machine.

I wish they would not enable item transfers but would allow dinos and characters, just cant bring anything beyond a saddle with you. Was playing on server 46 and the top tribes on there went to shit and just started attacking people for no reason and no way to fight back. But I really don't want to tame and level up again.

Doing a giveaway for this game! All you gotta do is sub and comment what dinosaur you like most and why!

I've been playing the shit out of ark lately. Was able to level up fast using my tribes rex so i went from 35 to 67 or 68 in a day vs me doing it by crafting shit. I'm really liking the community so far haven't had that many negative experiences. everyone seems to be helpful.

I binged played this for almost 3 weeks straight. Very unhealthy but so much fun. I recaptured that lost sense of not having my hand held in games. Highly recommend this to anyone who's itching for that sense of self-made freedom. I've stopped playing for now but it updates with patch notes on steam so frequently. Insane how many things have been added/fixed since I last played early summer.

True chains. I had a shitty experience last night that was partially my fault and also my dinos. Was taming a doedicurus and it was 5 hours in and almost done when a fucking rex came up to it and chomped it to death. I was across the river gathering more narcoberries for narcotics to finish it off and i saw the rex just run right past my rex, carno, and raptor and kill the doed. My dinos didnt even fucking defend themselves when the rex attacked. Plus side is i got to finally test out my AR......

i've been playing the shit out of this game since i discovered it a couple of weeks ago, it's frickin awesome.

i've never gotten into the whole "survival game" genre, as i was never particularly enthralled by the pvp aspect of it - however, with ARK, it's much more players Vs environment than it is PvP. well, especially as you have the choice to play on a pvp server, pve server, play solo, on a non-dedicated server or host your own dedicated server.

i've been hosting my own server at home for me and the g/f to play on

i can't hype up this game enough, it's that "something" i've been looking for since WoW got stale. i've built a massive complex, which has taken me hours of plowing down trees, i've tamed a Raptor, Carno, Trike, Parasaur, Dodo's and pteradon, it's awesome now being able to fly. i now have a rifle, sword, shield and can pretty much take on any foe - as long as i have backup from a raptor/carno.

it's seems like so long ago that i logged in for the first time an died within 5 seconds. i spawned in the swamps, instantly got bitten by a titanaboa and then died. second spawn, took me 20 seconds to die. 3rd spawn, i survived about 10 minutes and actually managed to build a little thatch house.

it's so much fun and such a thrill when you narrowly escape death, mostly because it's such an arse that you respawn naked and have to track your body down to recover all your stuff - which gets really annoying if you accidentally die in a weird ass place. but then thats your own fault (unless you manage to get your head stuck in a tree, like i did, then whilst chopping down the tree to free yourself, accidentally kill yourself)

loving it like i loved WoW when i first started playing it. i'm level 60 now and still have about 500 engram points to spend as i'm only unlocking stuff as i need it, it's amazing how far you can get on so little. i would advise anyone running a solo session to increase the XP rate and taming rate a little, as working in a tribe has many many benefits which you just dont get playing solo, so adjusting these values offsets the tribal gains you would otherwise get on a full server.

i've also been watching Sl1pg8r on youtube, he has an ARK survival gameplay playlist and covers a lot of the stuff you'd need to know to play effectively, he's kinda musing too, a little like watching will ferrels elf character play video games.

also worth noting, in the 2 weeks i've been playing it, there's been at least 3 or 4 content patches adding at least 1 new dinosaur each time, if not a couple. it's getting pretty regular minor patches practically every day and it's due for release on PC and consoles. this could be a big thing next year.

i'd describe this game as minecraft + skyrim + jurassic world and i fucking love it. can't wait to tame a T-rex +more

It runs like shit on my PC but I still enjoy it quite a lot. Never really been one for survival games but something about Ark just draws me in. Played a bit on a friends server where he has XP and taming turned up very high and it wasn't anywhere near as much fun so I'm back playing solo / official PVE ones now.

apparently they are still in the process of optimizing it. i run a GTX970 and i'm running it in "medium" graphics settings, purely because it's much more fluid. it can display "high" settings but it's not as smooth as it should be. so i'd expect at release, it'll be a lot more playable on a variety of hardware.

regarding taming and XP - i agree, putting it up too high makes it trivial, my nephew plays it and has been "force taming" using console commands, mind you, he is 11, so i let him off. but half the fun is protecting your unconscious new pet through the night whilst you tame it - which is especially precarious in some of the more lively areas. so cheesing the taming just removes part of the allure.

XP rate isn't actually too bad, as there's only so far levelling up will get you, you still have to find the rarer materials tro craft stuff with and you still have to craft things like the smithy and fabricator to make any of the more advanced tools/weapons as well as repair them. you can get decent drops from supply drops, but if you have no way to repair them when they break, your victories will be short lived (which is what my nephew is finding out).

you've also gotta be careful of your already tamed pets too - i was riding my carno, spotted a raptor, jumped off the carno, knocked the raptor out and started taming it, brought my carno over so i could transfer some raw meat to help tame with and the bastard killed and ate him! i smacked him on the nose with a newspaper for that one. then i went and found/tamed another raptor without my carno's help.

In interview with creative director they say that there will be no any problems with servers, but as I know even the EA games have problems with the servers, so I`m afraid there are many drawbacks with the speed of the game and its availability..

It was not set to passive then after you hopped off it. Having the pets status changed affects what it does when you jump off. I had a server and had the faster tame times on (mainly for taking 4 IRL hours to tame a bronto was just silly) We got it to about half an hour for larger creatures to 1 hour and every small creature was a few minutes and mediums up to around 15-20 on average.

Stopped my server as we all kinda went off the boil (kept my save tho ) . I also escorted my dinosaurs and my self to a nearby portal. So when I setup a server again to do some plays I can just hope back over. Might do it when all the dinosaurs are out and more contents in.

I'm building a computer with i7 4790k 4.0GHz and AMD Radeon R9 390x GPU. Steam sale has it at 18 bucks. Hopefully I can get max graphics at 30+ FPS! Also, once the early access ends, does that mean the game becomes unplayable until I pay whatever price they decide on it?

When you buy a game in early access it's your forever. And yes, you should be able to do 30+ on nearly max settings with that hardware.

yea, i figured that out eventually

i'm lvl 70 now and was doing quite well until my g/f and nephew joined my server+tribe and managed to kill nearly my entire collection of tamed dinos - was fun though, still enjoying it a lot and Sl1pG8rs playthrough videos on youtube are hilarious

I've been debating on buying this but am nervous.

I just want to play with my friends and family, is that possible without setting up LAN?

Completely possible, there's official and unofficial servers you can use, could even setup your own if you were so inclined.

Jumped back into this last week, rolled on an official server and for the next 45-50 minutes I spotted a total of 4 dinos. 4. Dinos. I didn't even know taming all of them was possible. That turned me off faster than American Idol's Final Farewell We'reSuperCerealHere Season. I'll give it another go some other time. I don't recommend rolling on OfficialServer2.
