    Political Correctness

Has it gone too far? I don't remember the last time I've had a really long and hard laugh at any sort of comedy show/movie. I am not saying that I only laugh at dark/obscene humor, but in the effort of not offending anyone, comedy had to tune it down A LOT in the past 10 years or so.

    What do you guys think?

Well to be fair comedy used to be fairly racist and sexist.

I think comedy is best when it pushes the envelope. You need to leave political correctness at the door and just understand that comics goal is to get a laugh. If it's funny then that is all that matters. The comic is not a politician and he is not trying to change minds on issues. He just wants you to laugh and give him money.

I recall some vids by comics (interviews) where they are asked about certain others jokes. A lot of them said the same. It's just a joke. If you don't like what is being joked on then leave. No one is forcing you to stay.

I kinda miss the old comedians too. That is why I love Luis CK right now. He gives it to you raw still. You can't make many great jokes that do not offend someone. The heart of a joke is usually offensive.

Comedy and political correctness do not mix.

The only issue with that is when people take the jokes as a universal truth. And that is an issue with the individual and not the joke itself.

Political Correctness wouldn't even exist if we could stop stuffing everyone into neat little categories and just look at each other as fellow human beings. When skin color, religion (or lack thereof), orientation, or whatever other identifier you want to include stop being relevant to how we treat people, then political correctness may go the way of the dinosaur.

I guess you're not really seeking out the sort of comedy you're looking for? Tosh is pretty popular and not politically correct by any means. I don't think very many of the most popular comics at present are particularly PC.

Yeah, people bitch about these comedians on Twitter, but who cares?

I dunno, the other day I heard they're giving on the spot fines for all bad drivers. I think that's pretty sexist.

I think there is a general lack of *good* comedy out there, since good comedy is incredibly difficult to pull off well. Add in the fact that now with youtube and the internet people have become accustomed to far more jokes/situations, which means comedians can't just keep re-using or plagiarizing material.

Hollywood tends to do anything that is successful to death, just look at how terrible Adam Sandler movies are nowadays, its because he has been making the same movies for 20 years. Most TV shows are terrible, sitcoms nowadays seem to have almost no comedy in them, or the comedy is not structured or paced well.

Another example of Seth Macfarlane, its amazing that show has lasted for 13 seasons considering it has pretty much used the same formula for the last decade and a half. Same thing for South Park, which has been on the air for 18 seasons, and still uses pretty much the same formula. Maybe the problem is that for something to be funny, it helps for it to also be unexpected.

Personally my taste has shifted more towards things that are unintentionally funny, which has become a goldmine for internet comedy. I think that it is incredibly difficult to be a traditional stand up comedian performing in front of a general audience nowadays, partly because comedic material has become so prevalent for such a wide range of tastes and partly because you do need to be PC because people will be offended if you go for certain topics. There are plenty of places where you can find the non-PC comedy you are looking for, but don't expect to see 'famous' comedians taking risks.

Before the camps, I regarded the existence of nationality as something that shouldn’t be noticed - nationality did not really exist, only humanity. But in the camps one learns: if you belong to a successful nation you are protected and you survive. If you are part of universal humanity - too bad for you -Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Everyone is at least a little politically correct. There are no exceptions. You just have to find what someone gets all PC and whiny about.

It still is and always will. Comedy is supposed to push boundaries.

"Politically correct/ Political correctness" is a phrase that doesn't actually mean anything anymore, besides saying of its speaker, "I am nostalgic for a time when I could be as racist/homophobic/sexist/all other types of bigoted as I wanted and nobody bugged me about it". Honestly I hope it goes further though. Just because the whining is funny. The types who make fun of others for "being offended over everything" tend to be the crowd that's most easily offended and the most whiny.

Everybody is sensitive and offended. I see extreme cases in US stories the most.

Louis CK was on Saturday Night Live, American comedian and American late night comedy show. He did a bit about pedophiles. It's about the only subject left that's edgy but he might've went too far. His performance made the news.

No. I mean there are a few people pissed about Louis CK hosting SNL again and his opening monologue but they're not the majority so whatever. I think your problem is more lack of original comedy than political correctness. Try different things. Louie for example, or Always Sunny in Philadelphia (absolutely not PC), Community, Rick and Morty etc... The last two aren't anti-PC or anything, they just don't follow the same sitcom-esque formula that a lot of shows suffer from.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the shows that i'd probably like, but I haven't gotten around to watching regularly.

After seeing the first two Horrible Boss flicks, Charlie Day seems like one of those characters that you would get tired of, and it seems like he makes that entire show.

I dunno, those movies were good (although I can't stand Sudeikis) but he wasn't really the same as he is in Always Sunny. He had to be relatively intelligent and somehow ended up playing the straightman when Bateman wasn't, whereas in Always Sunny he's borderline retarded and there's generally no straightman. Like I usually tell people to watch a show chronologically to get a feel for characters but I'd recommend watching the episode "Charlie Kelly: King of Rats". It's like my favourite episode of the show and is basically all about Charlie Day's character.

Of course it has. Especially since the creation of social media the intolerant left wing nazi socialists scream and shout their hatred while demanding blood at anyone or anything they do not agree with no matter the reason. Traditional media makes it worse by giving them a voice because real journalism died with the creation of twitter.

The right wing ignorance is strong with this post. Please post more of your obsession over social media.
