Gotta give you props for being patient to the old guy. However judging from the video those looked to be old logging trails so technically if Im not mistaken he does not own that property plus there were not any signs posted.

I'm sure he does own it, and he's currently logging it. In my state you have to post your land if you don't want people hiking on it / riding on it etc. He had no signs up so I went in to check it out, riding very slowly and gently so as not to 'tear ass' up his land, I just wanted to check it out and maybe talk to the owner if I wanted to ride there on the regular.

I'm with the owner here, it'd help YOU if he signposted it but you're still kinda in the wrong to just assume it's free roam, it is your responsibility to make sure you aren't trespassing and if the house was visible from the road even more so...

Unless you own a dirt track, or have a friend with one, you shouldn't have a dirt bike. You need to have express permission to run it on land you don't own. Since you were on his property, he can be as big a jerk as he wants.

They weren't posted at the obvious trail entry, so by law he can claim no knowledge it was private property with restricted access. That's not true of every state, but it is in several.

Why? Most dirtbikers won't take a new trail at high speeds, because they don't know its quality. They'll do a run at low speed to check for hazards and paths, then go through faster if they like the trail.

In my state there is no 'not supposed to be there' unless its posted or has no trespassing signs. At least put a sign at an entrance to a trail that says no trespassing if you don't want people on your land. In my state there are thousands of miles of trails for hiking / riding etc and most of them are state maintained so unless its marked otherwise its available for use.

Now of course if someone comes out and says "hey I don't want people on my land" thats fine, and you have to leave legally. But until then it's not illegal for you to be on someones land unless its posted or signed otherwise.
