Well.. if TF2 was and Apple's game, Tim Cook would sue blizz in a heartbeat ;P. Apple as a company is worse than Microsoft ever was.

Seriously though, no, there are no grounds to sue blizz for "copying" TF2 mechanics. Especially since in Overwatch aim plays secondary or even tertiary role in contrast to TF2.

Yes, Valve has been known to take popular Mods & make them their own games. Dota, Counter Strike & TFC.

Valve is no different than Blizzard, but Blizzard makes their own version instead of just taking the game & making carbon copies.

If I were Blizzard I would sue Valve for Dota 2. Like seriously, they couldn't come up with any original hero designs?

You're about two years too late with this idea.

Blizz did sue them over the use of the DOTA name. But agreed in the end, to let them use it as long as they dont refer to it as defense of the ancients.

I thought Valve was trying to copyright Dota which lead Blizzard to sue to stop it under the grounds they were trying to copyright a popular blizzard mod. Either way most people don't even know Dota stands for defense of the ancients.

Everything slowly copied almost anything from one another after someone else came up with an innovative idea in almost any video game. Here you see a mod from some guys who later go work at different developers to go with their version of the game. It became a whole genre. It's a game built in the game from some other developer, which happens to also likes to use the formula years later which everyone else does. Would they now sue Blizzard, the developer which let them built it in the first place? I most likely think not.

    wat
that was not the reason tho
blizzard sued valve because they didn't want valve to own the name Dota

Valve wanted to trademark the name Dota making sure no one was allowed to trademark "DoTA"
Blizzard didn't want this because Dota has been a part of blizzard and their community for many years and has been free to use for everyone
it's all about using the name Dota, nothing to do with gameplay

Also Valve can't sue blizzard for overwatch it's two different games that looks very different from eachother and valve would lose it so fast

Luckily you are not the legal adviser to Valve, or anyone else god forbid. While there are some arguments to the similarities between the game, a potential court case is way to uncertain for a reputable lawyer to advise taking legal action. Nor is Blizzard small enough to be bullied by Valve's lawyers into changing their game.
Patch 1.12, and not one step further!

Don't know if flamebait, but in-case it's not. Blizzard didn't sue chinese companies for "copying the concept of Hearthstone" they used them for using DIRECT ART ASSETS.

Jesus fucking Christ. Valve didn't invent the fps.

Yes and no. There was legal actions being taken against one another, but it was settled with Blizzard accepting that Valve took the Dota name. In addition, allot of the names, models, spells and other aesthetic parts of Dota was partially or significantly changed.

It wasn't because the Chinese company copied the concept of hearthstone, it was because they pretty much ripped actual art from hearthstone/wow.

The whole idea of a company buying the rights to a mod of another company's game is kind of baffling, to be honest.

chinese companies do this with just about everything, theme parks, games, cars, electical goods, ANYTHING if you search hard enough you can find just about anything they've copied, china always ignores copywrite laws, china doesn't care because america owes them trillions, and both countries need each other to be successful.

uuuuhhhhh Valve would have no case

or else basically we would only have like a few games, 1 for each genre.

There was a quake mod, then even Unreal Tournament mods and "TFC" was a big thing on Half-Life 1 from which TF2 was most directly copied/evolved.
