    Road between Sweden/Norway
It varies a lot, but generally the road "stops" because different people are paying for for the maintenance. You can probably find examples from within your own country of this kind of behaviour with excellent paved roads in one county and then 5 miles down the same road the pavement is utter shit, and the only difference is that you passed some imaginary line that decides who pays for what.

Same in the US. Yellow is the center line, if it's solid no passing, if it's dashed passing is allowed. White is used for the sides of the road and for marking lanes going in the same direction.

    Why yellow..... intelligent road planning..

    Yellow

Have you ever wondered why Smiley is yellow? The reason is that yellow helps to release a chemical in the brain called Serotonin, essential for causing a happy mood.
Studies have proven that yellow color enhances concentration and gives the brain and nervous system a “ wake-up call”. Too much of yellow color can cause fatigue. Studies show that babies cry more in yellow rooms. It is the most difficult color on the eye and people might lose temper more often in yellow rooms. It is also beneficial for speeding up metabolism and is a common food color.

So, for road markings yellow is rather perfect... Unless you paint the entire road with it lol

Because the people responsible for marking roads, paving roads and so on are not responsible for the roads in another country, even if they're connected.

Durr. Why do you not mow your neighbors lawn after mowing your own?

You don't even have to leave the country for that.
At least here in the US, the roads are a matter of the city/county/state/country.... In that very order.
When the city paves the roads it stops at the city limits end. When the county paves em, it stops at the county border and so on..

Yup, I'm very familiar with it. Though strangely States are required to maintain Federal Highways.

Always found this fascinating, how different colors/wavelenghts have such deep effect in the human mind and even body.
Such as using red-light wavelenght to speed up healing, or bluelight to kill deep-layer skin infections, its mind-expanding in by itself.

Funny how old ideas like "healing with light" start becoming a reality

    Maybe where ever you live.

In the US, that is not what yellow means. Yellow lines indicate the divide between opposing lanes of traffic. White lines indicate the divide between lanes of traffic going the same direction. Dashed means passing is allowed, solid means passing is not allowed.
