I personally don't like recorder's tone, every single note is flat...... It messes with my brain
I prefer modern flute's perfect pitch and brightness.
Then again, the kind of flute I like (and what I was taught by my teacher) is poorly received in the music society. They say flute should be a little flat and gloomy..

One of the best duets for two flute, and it shows how bright the tone can get and the possibilities of pleasant sounding harmonies.
Try listening the duet end to the end, best part is the last movement
