"please resubscribe" emails - is this new?

Now i've mentioned im unsubbed right now, i tried a token but even for free i havent been able to bring myself to login for almost 3 weeks purely because of how dead the world of dreanor is and i like my mmo to be a world, not a raid as the focus -BUT this is beside the point. Point being right now im unsubbed.

Its not the first time, over the last ten years ive had to drop the game for a few weeks, vacations, university and so on, it happens right?

Well today i get an email from Blizzard, i assume its yet another spam mail to try and get me to install heros of the storm or something but no its not.

What it is is a short paragraph saying "your gametime is about to run out, please decide to continue your adventures in azeroth and follow this link to add more gametime or buy a prepaid gametime card".

I assume its a fishing scam or fake email, we all get them now and again right?

But nope this is from blizzard entertainment alright.

    So is this new?

In my ten years of playing ive never seen Blizzard actively send out emails saying "please sub again". No "and check out this upcoming content" no "and continue the legendary questline!" but just a block of blue text saying "please subscribe again".

To be honest i've not seen any mmo i've ever played do this. Were it listing content it would seem like the usual automated ads but -and this isnt meant to be inflammatory brave knights, rein your steeds- it seems like target begging for players who are about to leave the game.

IS it new? or somehow i've just never got on over the times ive unsubbed for a while over the years?

I'm currently unsubscribed, but I'm not sure my playtime has expired yet. I do get emails about a lot of other Blizzard related games, like HotS and Hearthstone, but I haven't seen anything like what you mentioned.
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime?

I have been getting those e-mails for a while now. Every time my sub is about to run out, I get a notification.

    I got this too:

I don't recall them doing anything similar in the past (I've intermittently played since TBC) but I may be wrong and don't see anything weird with it either. Just for the record I was on a in-game gold sub, and haven't resubbed.

Its existed for years. I got one during wrath. Nothing new here guys we can all move alone with the next conspiracy theory of blizzard worrying about stuff.

Next time you get one it'll have a graphic of your main begging you to come back and nostalgia screenshots from the expansion you started in to lure you back!

I love how Thunderbird gives me a message every time Blizzard send me an email; "This may be a scam". They aren't wrong.

I've gotten stuff kind of like it from games like SWTOR, Eve, FFXI and so on, but they are always effectively an ad for content updates and informing me to "check out X!".

I've never seen one that just says "please come back" before. Not for any game really.

Waaaaay down near the bottom of that pathetic email is an "unsubscribe" button, that turns off the email notifications bring sent which should include that piece of garbage you've just received!

It's new. I've run on time cards for years, and I'd let it go for a few days if there was nothing left for the week. First time I got one of these notices was November of last year. It's a retention tactic aimed at people who forget about WoW and let their subs lapse or are so new they may not realize they need to subscribe.

Doesn't seem anything new to me, my old Email gets one of these once in a while.

It's not like the exact line either "please Come Back"

Never seen one before last November, and I've been on cards since Cata when Blizzard started double billing and refused to fix it. I've gotten promotional ones talking about up coming patches, free 7-10 days of game time, Blizzcon or this or that, but never a mail that addressed me like I don't know how to set up a subscription before WoD.

"Yo, your time is about to run out. Just a heads up." is not the same as "pls come back". It is a bit spammy though since I can see in the launcher when my time runs out.
