I seem to remember a movie I watched when I was younger where in order to avoid an asteroid destroying the earth the moved the Earth by installing a bunch of rockets in a large area of land and fired them all at once. While in real life that would probably be disastrous if it worked like in the movie because it moved the earth a far distance, if we tried something like that now in a more controlled manner, would it even be possible to get enough thrust to move the earth like a spaceship. I would think with several million rockets in a concentrated area, it would be possible to move the earth just far enough away from the sun that it would cool the earth a few degrees
