    [Guardian] 6.2 Discussion thread

Since the old thread (found here: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...Survival-Guide ) was ridiculously out dated, it's about time to get a new thread started, specifically for the 6.2 patch and all the current Guardian issues and questions.

Since there is no guide part (sadly no one stepped up to maintain one) we'll just have a regular discussion thread about everything Guardian.

Some opening points fellow Guardians might want to discuss or weigh in on (since I'm a new Bear myself and still in the process of finding out these things)

    • Dodgeable attacks in HFC, i.e. anything where having Savage Defense up will help
    • BiS gear list, what tier slot to drop, which trinkets to use etc.
    • Guardian specific tricks in fights in HFC (I saw Khaelyna try to test if Displacer Beast will let you blink through waves on Mannoroth, for instance, stuff like that)

And most importantly ANY Guardian related questions that you might have that other Guardians might be able to answer for you.

A new thread is welcome, wish there would be a guide... I would've made one myself but since I can't seem to ever tank in my guild I don't feel like im suited to making a guide and keeping it updated with important info >.<

so, just to start topic, what do you guys think about all the chat mastery vs multistrike? since our active mitigation will be a lot better (hype) can we do a build more arround dmg, and bigger hp pool (like slootbag does), since we will mitigate a lot of dmg and will no be raped by the bosses like 6.1 mastery will loose a bit value? thoughts?

There are also some insane healer tier bonuses in HFC, many of them boosting tank healing by a lot. So TDR will be a lot less important. Especially considering the high amounts of magical damage in HFC, multistrike seems a really good choice.

Great Point, and which means the warrior will also be great for this expansion for its high passive mitigation?

Even with the presence of magical damage in abundance, much of it is paper-cut damage or you would use a CD to mitigate it. Melee/physical damage is still going to be the vast majority of the damage we take, so mastery will still be very important (tuning aside, some of the roughest bosses I had to tank on the PTR, the melee damage was the worst part). I'd think Xul'horac would be the boss that makes the best case for multistrike stacking for extra health since he's all about frequent magical attacks, but even that fight has melee damage is still going to be around 60% of the damage you will likely take.

If you find yourself wanting more health, I'd advise using a trinket to augment how much damage you can take.

With how much passive healing(and how much MORE there will be with Holy Pally Trinket + 2 set) MS be fine if you are like myself pushing damage always. Also with Anzu's having a stupidly high 60%+ uptime most of the time we will have more than enough mastery.

This is what I will be aiming for but obviously a lot of those items won't even happen during progression. I will most likely end up with more mastery in slots because they are earlier. I will grab any trinkets in the instance for reasons. I will def keep my BFD around due to it still being strong as fuck. Not sure I will ever find myself running WuE after the raid testing. Just isn't needed. Stam trinket shouldn't see the light of day . Class trinket has a couple of potential bosses to be used on(problem is class trinket is a token... don't take it from your DPS), but most bosses it will be worse than running BFD or any of the dps trinkets in the instance.

You have to keep in mind, not everyone has access to great healers like some of us do. Pushing DPS is fine if your healers can keep up, but I wouldn't tell a Guardian with a not-so-great healing core to not make sure he/she can survive just so they can push numbers. Everyone has to adjust to their own situations. Even on mythic progression, execution almost always trumps what extra damage we're capable of putting out with shifting stats around anyways.

Lets be honest. Its not healers next tier. Its a single holy pally. If you have a good one you don't need anything but a 2 set/class trinket beacon of light from the holy pally to live every mythic boss and a couple externals for hits.

Logs of mythic testing with tier was just dumb. Seeing the bear him/herself + the holy pally be 98% of healing done to you. Just silly. Granted its not THAT different atm, but it just gets to a point where something went wrong if its not just the pally beacon healing you.

Now of course you don't want to progress with 1k mastery like that setup I plan on using at the end of the tier, but I also don't see a reason to push current levels of mastery when Anzu's is a trinket and SavD providing 20% phys reduc. You just need to obviously not cap SDs but also you are pretty fine during an Anzu proc and can bridge those with SavDs/Frenzys. Requires more attention than some will give though.

Ah ya it went back to 20%. For a while PTR had it at 25%... w/e 5% is meh. The fact that SD can be used on big phys hits is just great.

Pretty sure it's always been 20%, it was when i logged on in the early days... patchnotes from 6.2 still says 25% however.

20% is fine for me. I mean we got lots of hp, really good melee asorbs via mastery (even if we aim for multistrike thanks to AcP) and good short CDs for the big bangs.

right now I'm undecided wether to go troll for some more deeps (rage -> heal), or stay tauren for some hp (and better style).

TBH Tauren is master race, easily 25k hp with multistrike. You get some crit damage bonus, and warstomp can have some utility... and I think they just look better than trolls as well.

I'm just curious if blizz thinks it is actually 20% or 25% on the PTR right now? Patchnotes has been 25% and PTR 20% since the release of the PTR...

I'm not really a fan of using DPS trinkets in general combat... but if everyone else will use them and get ranks with them, I might have to? I do like whoring dps from time to time.

Still I'm a fan of the big ole stamina, versatility and bonus armour trinket in addition to the blast furnace door one.

I think I'll keep my Tablet for a while longer, in combination with anzu.
i really dislike stamina trinkets. Especially static stat trinkets. Not really a fan, probably won't use it.

Anzu is a must with 60%+ uptime on almost 100% mastery we will be pretty immortal to physical but there is a fair bit of big magic hits this tier, i'm leaning towards BFD over Tablet until i get maybe the mythic Stam+Vers+BA one unless i can somehow get either Soul capacitor or Blademaster. Doubt i'll coin either of those bosses as feral though and i definitely wouldn't take them over DPS, so they are unlikely pickups until post prog.

Also glad we have a thread now, Curious what people are doing with their coins first week? I think i'll just be coining Shadowlord Iskar and Archimonde heroic and saving the rest for Mythic with the goal of clearing around 7-9/13M first mythic week.

as long as you are not aiming for ranks, not really.
on the other hand, more raid dps = less raid mechanics. the question is, how much survivability do you really need?
i don't see a point, other than going half afk while farming.

Early mythic bosses will drop trash though with the same item level as high level heroic; and later heroic bosses and tier will matter. Heroic will matter for progressing forward.
