Can't play melee in mobas, I always see them as either too exposed and weak or resilient to damage but doing 0 damage back (Johaana). I prefer ranged characters of which I only like Nova and that gets boring after 5-6 matches. Hence why hots doesn't currently reside on my hdd.

I can digest Tyrael as melee though because of all the charges and shield.

Maybe Kerrigan. I'm usually pretty good in predicting what I will and will not like though.

    Sonya.

I hated her when I (a long time ago) played her as she was labeled (Warrior). However, when I recently started playing her as an assassin, I've enjoyed her a great deal more. She's still not my favorite hero, but I don't think she's a complete waste of space now.

I have to say that next patch, Sonya will be a monster of a assassin/warrior, given the nerfs to everyone else. If ONLY they were to fix her target-lost thing whenever she uses her abilities, would be perfect.

As for me, myself, Illidan. Early alpha, was all like "ALL TEH BUTTON SPAMS", then i read i was doing it wrong, then i got better. Now I mainly play Illidan when its time to play Assassin.

Kerrigan & Tyrael are two that I thought I'd never enjoy, and that I'd give up before I even got them to 5 on their F2P weeks.

Mostly because I hate melee, Kerrigan looks really squishy, and warriors aren't high enough damage to interest me.

Turns out I had it all wrong. Didn't know Kerrigan's assimilation shields + ravage heal could make her into such a monster. Took on a Nazeebo while he was on his own. Falstad and Thrall popped up behind and I thought "Welp, I'm fucked." - Annihilated all 3 of them. No idea how. She's my next hero to buy.

And Tyrael. My god. I build him for survival nowadays, and he still does so much damage I can take down a Nova/Zeratul comp before they make a dent in my health, it's incredible. I bought him after my first 3 or so games and he's already level 6 or 7. So much fun.

I thought Rehgar would be my healer, but I've been playing Lili to get her to lvl 5....she rules!!

I hate how she looks and I thought her kit was boring, but she's such a powerful healer...sry Rehgar!!

I really didn't think I'd like Nazeebo. Dislike the aesthetic and theme - never touched the Witch Doctor in D3, etc.

Tried him one game while he was free this weekend to help tackle a daily. I landed my first zombie wall that I cast and got first blood. I was hooked from there. So much you can do with those zombies.

I too found Nazeebo fun to play after initially thinking he'd be dull. Though it didn't last, I've been putting my time more on other specialists.

Like Gazlowe. He's another one I though I wouldn't like, but a specialist daily mission later he was suddenly my favorite hero.

Valla is a little different. I didn't like playing with her even though I recognized her potential. She's a badass demon hunter and her abilities were conventional and powerful, but I couldn't help feeling something was off. Then her Angelic skin went on sale and I took it for a spin in the test mode. Suddenly I really liked playing her. Maybe it's due to the projectiles being more visible? I don't know, but it was the first purchase I did on HotS and was a game-changer.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

I honestly felt that I wouldn't enjoy playing Muridan. I started out playing bursty Assassins like Nova, and I was not use to playing a hero where CC was the key part of the hero instead of damage. Took me a few games to start enjoying but I found that I enjoy setting up CC chains and kills.

It's very exciting to see setup and hammer stun + a damage heavy AOE ability like Precision strike!

Zagara and i liked her so much I bought a skin for her too which makes her the only hero I have a premium skin for.

I think I wont like Butcher, but i'll give him a try on the store anyway, maybe even buy him to keep up with my "having every hero" bought.

Also, I liked the idea of Johanna at first, then bought her, decided maybe it was a bad idea, then played her some more, now shes my 6th Master Skin.. after I figure her out.

Azmodan, I didn't like him, thought the idea of making minions is stupid as they'd get wrecked, but it's kind of nice to build up a massive army of your own while throwing fire from the sky and the earth.

Malf as well. I bought all the 2k gold champs to get into hero league, and I didn't expect him to be as fun and strong to play. Great pairing with jaina for a super annoying lane.

I actually love raynor. Didn't think I would but he's my go-to toon now. I like how I can support just a little, but put a hurtin on people from a distance.

I didnt think I would like any support characters, and then Li Li walked into the room... And later Malfurion. Those two are the only support I like, Tassadar doesn't do enough support (he really should be a specialist) and the other support don't do enough damage. I like to feel like I am helping in the damage department while healing. In the least I should be able to efficiently kill off minion waves and contribute visibly to kills.

There is nothing quite as thrilling as an opponent with a sliver of life thinking they escaped getting killed running off and you guess where they would be to end their life with a long distance dunk! From downtown!

Try out Tyrande sometime. I hadn't bothered, until I got the chance last night with the free rotation and a friend I was queuing with, and it was almost silly. She's not amazing for siege damage or clearing minions, particularly as you don't want to drop her E to AoE the minions; you want to save that stun for enemy heroes. But if you can queue with a buddy and communicate, her trait is sillypants. 25% increased damage to the target for 4 seconds. With coordination so they hit as you drop it, that's more than enough to get reliable kills, especially if you land her stun as well.

She buffs her partners' damage, has a decent heal (and it bleeds back on you automatically, to boot), a map-awareness sight ability that can also shut down stealthers, and a (small) AoE stun/damage ability. That's everything I want in a support. Probably not as amazing if you're solo-queueing (you'll have to use your trait more opportunistically than as an initiation), but still highly useful. She's going to be my next purchase, as it is.

I regularly take out top hero damage as Tyrande in QM :P

More of a comment on how good QM assassin players are rather than how good Tyrande is, but still.

Pity her heal is pretty pissweak though.

Nazeebo - Had never played him before the last free rotation, ended the week almost at level eight. Now i play the "he better be on sale soon" waiting game!

Nazeebo was a hidden gem for me - didn't care for witch docs in D3, didn't think I'd like him, but damn, he is my go-to specialist now.

Raynor was also a hidden gem - I normally don't like autoattack based assassins and prefer ability based assassins (Kael), but the sheer power of Raynors autoattack when properly talented is awe-inspiring.
