Are there any credible GOP candidates for 2016?

Checking what GOP candidates that are running for presidency in the US in 2016, I can't help but notice that there aren't yet any "big name" candidates with serious credibility as a GOP candidate. I'm not an American, but it's saying something that I actually prefer Donald Trump just for comedic value. A lot of the rest just doesn't seem all that credible. from what I can tell, there are like 20 or 30 candidates, and many of them are tea party (too right-wing), overly religious for the more progressive members, too many opinions that are unacceptable to certain groups, or too progressive for the conservative groups.

Is there any GOP candidate who is enough of a central candidate to actually stand a chance against the democrat candidate?

Tea Party is right wing. In fact, so right wing that they might well fall off the wing if they move any further to the right

Neither party has very good candidates for 2016, but then again neither party has had a really good candidate for decades.

He's not a frothing lunatic, but otherwise, there's little to recommend him.

There are no real GOP candidates in my assessment. Part of the problem is the Tea Party (right wing, as Butler already corrected) pulls the party so far right that in order to win the GOP primaries, you basically have to scream insanity from the hill tops: declare yourself in favor of eternal war, the abolition of government, building a kilometer-high wall between America and Mexico, and making the Mexicans pay for it (and build it, because let's be honest), etc.

Once you're done convincing the crazies that you too are crazy, you then have to go to the Presidential race - having just buried yourself in unelectable sound-bytes - and try to run moderate enough to pull democrats to your side (given that the majority of the popular vote is democratic). It's a no-win scenario. The only way to get to the presidential race, is if you're un-electable.

Despite that moderate republicans are still the majority of the republican voter-base (though virtually none of them are in elected office now), they have no power in their own party - because in order to get anywhere near 50%, the GOP needs to also capture the far right: and win back some of the moderate left (only after having won the far right).

Pretty much, the last few years have been about picking the better of two shitty choices. It has been a long time since there was a final candidate I wanted to be president rather then just didn't want the other guy to win. I do wonder if the reason I like the other people more in the past was I was just younger and knew much less about politics, I fear things have been like this for a long time.

There aren't any credible candidates, period.

Santorum, Hucklebee would've been Democrats about 20 years ago.

The best Republican candidate will be an unknown Republican governor of a larger state. If he's unknown, people haven't grown to hate him yet. Candidates from a state almost always win their home state. I think the governor of Texas is running, that's a huge state. I can't remember his name so that's a good sign for him, he has all the prerequisites.

I would prefer a truly liberal candidate. I will take Elizabeth Warren.

No, he does, he knows exactly what he is talking about, and he knows what it means, but he isn't willing to back down, or be intimidated into being PC.

Your last question is different from the one you asked in the title of the thread. The answer to your first question is yes, of course. The answer to your next question, is probably. In a large field of candidates, of course you have a wide spectrum of viewpoints represented.

He's so amazing he's had his television shows pulled from major networks too embarrassed to associate with him.

Probably looking at a walker/bush or vice versa by election time. The koch brothers like walker already and if they pickup bush after his speech soon then that'll be the gop picks that have a lot of money to spread lies.
